Can Titans run the table? Chris Johnson's vow of 10 wins not so crazy now
It was easy to dismiss Titans RB
Chris Johnson when he said after the team's first win of the season that Tennessee
could win 10 straight games and still make the playoffs at 10-6.
Now, with the Titans have won
four straight games behind QB
Vince Young after a
20-17 in Houston on Monday, must the Titans be considered at least outside contenders for a playoff berth? They did win 10 straight games last year.
ESPN analyst
Steve Young cautioned on Monday night not to lose sight of the giant obstacles facing the Titans. First, there are the six losses they opened the season with. But their competition for the AFC's two wild-card berths is stiff also.
"Look at the AFC, who we're taling about," Young said. "We're talking about Pittsburgh ... there's just so much distance. You'd have to have everyone fall flat on their face. They could end up 8-8, 9-7, but really there's no way you could get to 10-6. It's what you're going to need (for a playoff spot) in the AFC this year."
Even 10 wins might not be enough, as the Patriots missed the playoffs last year with an 11-5 record. But the Titans trail six teams with better records, including the Steelers, Broncos and Ravens, in the race for the playoffs.
They have a believe in ESPN analyst
Matt Millen, however. He said Johnson's vow for the Titans to run the table is very reachable. "Nothing is impossile in this league anymore," Millen said.
"They're playing good defense. They've gotten healthy on defense, and they've got a good rush too."
On the Titans schedule are the Cardinals, a trip to Indianapolis, a three-game homestand against the Rams, Dolphins and Chargers (on Christmas Day), and the season finale in Seattle. --
