are diamonds a scam??

I read an interesting article abut the companies starting a huge marketing scheme about how great and valuable and rare diamonds are and for years it's been the biggest scam going.

It went on to say that there's tons and tons of diamonds locked away by these big companies and that it's all scheming and marketing that people buy into how valuable and rare they are when it's all a joke.

I kind of see it. I mean people pay enormous amounts of money for these things and girls just go ga ga for them because girls are supposed to love diamonds.

i would assume alot of people get burned by this, it would be easy for someone to tell another person "oh yes this is worth 50,000" when its really only worth hundreds

Yes diamonds are a huge scam. DeBeers controls the whole diamond market and they make sure only a certain amount hit the streets, this in turn drives up the price.
Diamonds are really very plentiful and should be worth very little, but do to that company doing what they do, diamonds are priced in the thousands.

This is one of the biggest scams ever pulled on people

worst part is that lately they are making synthetic diamonds that are SO GOOD that even experts are having a hardtime telling them apart from the real thing......................IMHO there are other stones that are much better looking than a diamond

Total scam. Even if you believe they are rare, they serve no purpose other than vanity.
You could say that about a lot of things, but diamonds are marketed towards women with the caveat that men must pay the bill.^^
