AP) – The sheriff who said he believed a couple was being honest when they reported their son was set adrift on a homemade helium balloon now says criminal charges will be filed. Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden didn't say tonight what the charges would be, but he did say the parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, aren't under arrest. The Heenes spent much of the afternoon at the sheriff's office and were headed home, where they were expected to speak to reporters.
Richard Heene has insisted that the drama that unfolded Thursday wasn't a publicity stunt. He and his wife reported that their 6-year-old son, Falcon, had been inside the flying-saucer shaped balloon when it launched from their back yard. Actually, Falcon had been hiding in the rafters of his family's garage.

Why on earth would they build such a ridiculous gaudy UFO-type thing if not to attract attention? That this was a publicity stunt is very plausible

I saw the interview live with Wolf Blitzer. It was so obvious it was a hoax when the kid spilled the beans. After he slipped the father looked pale and was nervous as hell. Blitzer even asked the dad again to ask the kid what happened and he wouldn't.
Friggin idiots...

It's a hoax and the parents tried to cover it up. He got defensive when Wolf wanted to ask the boy again why he said he did it for the show. To me, the dad getting defensive, means they're busted.

amazing what people will do just to get attention. i seen some footage on one of the networks and some neighbor lady or co-worker of the guy, and she was saying he is an attention freak.

Obviously 6 year old Falcon [aka 'Little Alphonse'] Heene was the criminal mastermind behind this ongoing criminal operation. He should be imprisoned forever for his crimes. Sitting right next to him in prison should be Wolf Blitzer and every other News Twinkie who helped perpetuate this fraud. Walter Cronkite would not be proud.

CNN had countless reporting errors. saying they saw a basket attatched, etc. There is not a need to know, yet they did and made a comedy of errors. Wolf Blitzer is one of the worst in the buisness.
