Our lotto is new and i bought my first ticket today for a 5.00 scratch off...i won a 100.00 of first ticket. If the back of the ticket says odds 1/3.27 since i'm up 95.00. Should i go get 20 more 5.00 tickets for this 100, it looks like to me, i have a edge working and should try to see....

What are my real chances of turning 100 into 200

If you're trying to make money, you should never buy another
scratch off ticket, it is one of the worst "gambling" plays out there.

The figure 1/3.27 doesn't give enough information, it probably means
1 in 3.27 chance of winning any prize.

You have no edge. Take your lucky win, and don't buy any more
scratch-offs. If you are trying to turn $100 into $200 you'd be
better off going to a casino, and playing one hand of
baccarat for $100.

I jsut read the texas lotto and our payout are supposed to be similiar. If you buy a pack of 75 tickets 350 guaranteed money is 180.00. I have already hit my first ticket for 100 so it will cost me 250 cash with around 150 guaranteed. I really think i have a big edge being up 95.00 first card. Thoughts

As far as edge is concerned, past results don't effect your edge
(or expected value) in future tickets.

i haven't played the lotto here yet, but once upon a time i played the shit out of the scratch offs in Ga. it seemed like 2006 and into 2007 i won at a decent rate, and then when the economy took a shit i could never win more than a free ticket. i became convinced that the state had tightened the payoffs to bring in more money, so up to this point i don't even have that desire.

i have tried that before, bought 20 tickets at a time, and wind up getting nothing but a couple free tickets that turn out to be losers. if you want to stay ahead of the game, i'd pocket the cash and not buy any for a few days, or i'd buy a few cheaper tickets. i just don't trust the shit.

jumbo bucks were my favorite in georgia once upon a time, and i did notice they have those here.....

Scratch-Off Tickets
In instant scratch-off games, the state takes about 50% of the action. 34% going to public education and the rest covering administrative and promotional costs. The remaining 50% is returned in prizes. Since the state keeps 50 cents of every dollar bet, the house edge is 50%, making the scratch-off game one of the worst out there.

by the way, zit is right, 1 in 3.27 means "any prize", which means nothing but winning the value of a ticket most of the time. shit will piss you off after awhile, especially when you buy a whole roll and fully expect to get at least one or two nice hits.

Zit is right.. but people get in line for the latex covered treasures. When I was a little kid, at my grandparents I remember finding boxes of pull tabs that my grandpa used to float around.. anyone remember those??

You have to be kidding right????? YOU have an EDGE over the lottery????????? You just paid $5.00 and won $95. If every 3 tickets in theory is a winner....Then it is logical that the next 60 straight tickets will be losers JUST to pay the $95 u won.....What about the big prize? If its say $5000 then they will sell 15,000 losing tickets just to pay for that 1 winner......
These things can be like crack...dont go for the hook....

My friend sold these at his liquor store. He told me it was the biggest waste of money. Rarely saw any winners of more that $50.

Now ill be the first to admit that instant tickets are a waste of money..but hear about what my buddies gfriend tole me about them....

She has been managing a gas station for about 5 years now and told me she can tell when a ticket in each book is going to be a winner...so i asked her how she "knew"....so here is what she told me....

When physically selling (not from the vending machines they have) a ticket look at the perferated edge where each tickets tear. Most are the same and pretty much blend in with the other ticket(basically no difference) but every few tickets there is a different color where the perferated edge is(yellow, purple, white) the next ticket after that line is a winner....

she claims this works 65-70% of the time and she can basically tell each customer if it is a winner or not...so the other day i told her to save me $100 worth of these "winning tickets" and i would buy them after work...so she does saves me 10 different tickets ranging from $2-$20...i scratch them and sure as shit i win on 7 of the 10 and won almost $500.

Take it for what its worth...i still think it is bs...wish she would never have told me this cuz my dumb ass will probably keep doing this until i lose my ass
