This place is never mentioned in any food threads. Recently they seem to be advertising their various shrimp dishes. I like the commercial where the guy orders steak, shrimp, prime rib and expects all for under $10. These dishes look really good. Does anybody visit Golden Corral. Are there any locations around Chicago. When I was in college I used to go to one in Macomb, Illinois. Is it still open in Macomb. Home of the WIU Leathernecks.

there are a couple GC's around here in Indiana. The selection and price are great, but they tend to use lower quality meat. It's probably best for a family on a budget that doesn't mind sacrificing a little quality.

quality is not great. I like some of the shrimp.I don't care for the steaks there. never heard of them having ribs... I like the salad, oven rosted chicken, bourbon chicken, and banana pudding. everything else is below average IMO

headquarters is here in raleigh, so their flagship restaurants are around me. and their quality is for the most part, pretty bad. they have a wide selection and only a few things are good. yeast rolls and fried chicken are very good. most of the baked goods taste like dirt. even the salad sucks, and thats hard to do. they keep adding more expensive dishes, and raising the prices, but the expensive things are so low quality that you cant eat them anyway. i think they priced themselves out of the market, last time i went for lunch there were about 20 customers. 2 years ago there would have been 20 people in line to pay at lunch time.

Thanks for some great feedback. It sounds like some locations are better than others. I remember seeing on the food channel, the Golden Corral down by Branson, Mo was famous for their breakfast buffet.

When I get bad beat or lose a lot, which happens often I like to feast to drown my sorrows. A good breakfast buffet sounds real good right about now.

Pappadeaux here in Schaumburg used to have all you can eat Lobster Tails for $30 on Thursday night. A few years back me and 5 co-workers went & consumed over 65-70 tails. I myself had 12. Place ran out of tails and said they had 1 live lobster they could cook outta of the tank. One of my co-workers said yes. It was his 14 lobster tail that night. They obviously lost money on our group.

There is one that just opened a little while back here in Sioux City.
Have not eaten there yet, but I hear huge lines start forming at 11:00 in the morning and 4:30 in the afternoon.

Funny cause the ones here in Floria are always packed. Especially around lunch time all the retirees go and have their dinner.

At nights they get so packed you have to wait about 5 minutes in line.

Only been there once though. Pretty mediocre food like almost any buffet.

never understood how people think they are going to get amazing food for like 8.99, i mean you have your choice of like 40 different things and for under $10 beats the price of like a combo meal from burger king or mcdonalds

I don't expect good food. I get it. You can't have so many things and maintain high quality. They do have one or two things that are good though.

Speaking of all you can eat, has anyone eaten at Texas de Brazil?

i never knew there were so many golden corrals, i thought it was a regional chain. the older ones tend to be worse, with less selection.

My father and his buds go there. They love it apparently. Obviously a senior citizen thing. I will try it at some point but do not expect much for quality. How can you screw up Mac n Cheese?
