I woke up after just a couple hours of sleep last night with what I thought was pain in my ear. My girl had an ear infection recently so I put some drops in it that she had and slept painfully. When I woke up, the sharpness of the pain seemed to faded but it hurts to talk, and my jaw is very, very sore. Right next to my ear, my jaw is very swollen and a constant dull pain. I ate breakfast ( couldnt chew really so I ate a can of pears) and i thought it was ok. I went to brush my teeth and realize my jaw is out of alignment.

My bottom jaw is shifted away from the swollen jaw. It looks goofy, and makes it hard to talk or do anything. Is this something I should worry about. I wasn't concerned at all until I looked in the mirror, and saw my jaw out of place. It feels like I took a baseball pat to the side of the face.

I don't have insurance so it would be out of pocket if I go to the Docs.

Something is obviously wrong and doubt it will get better all by itself, so you need to see a doctor or dentist whether it is out of pocket or not.

your jaw is out of alignment, yet your asking if you should go to the doc or not? come on, dont act that stupid.

theyll treat you but your going to pay big bucks for it. go to the walk in clinic and get in line, either that, or crack your jaw back into place yourself.

See I did freak out. My girl says im overreacting. Maybe she did it to me in my sleep :ohno:

Really though, I guess I was wondering has anyone had this happen. I thought maybe if the swelling goes down, my jaw will go back to its right place. Its not like I can't open my mouth. Just painful

i would guess infection, the out of alignment is probably a symptom not the cause

Well the place that takes walk ins closes at 5, and is always packed. I am just going to ice it the entire day today, and wake up early in the morning to beat the line if it still hurts tomorrow.

I would still like to know your opinion, or if this has ever happened to you

Im no doctor but ive had simular pains and im pretty sure those are swollen glands causing that. I would guess that if someone looked down ur throat the area where ur tonsils are or were is blood red instead of pink.
Id try gargling with warm salt water every half hour to relieve pain and get ur ass to a doctor.......or wait on P.O.69 to get here...your choice....lol

You're going to wind up going to the doctor. The sooner you go the better off you'll be...

It's either an infected gland or you could be brewing a dental abscess...

Those are my two best guesses without examining you.

Get to the doctor. Get a CBC. Get on the right meds. Putting it off will only make it worse.

get this all the time....with me it is nothing more than an infected wisdom tooth...it seems that there is an opening around the gum that gets food impacted in it...only happens when eating potato chips, pretzels etc...so i don't eat them often and if i do i brush the back part with baking soda right after eating chips,pretzels...
