The BCS computers are as dumb as rocks...

This isn't another BSU rant... (although they dropped like 4 spots after winning by 50 the day before, being undefeated, and being the only team to beat a top-10 BCS school of those that moved)...

This rant is about Iowa. Apparently the computers have them at #1 when they are at #8 in the human polls.

So here is my gripe. Iowa was #2 last week. Florida was #1 in the computers (just the computers, not including human polls before the final BCS standings are set). What exactly did Iowa do to take the top spot last week?

They beat Michigan State by 2 points. Florida beat Mississippi State by 10 points. Both on the road.

Michigan State has lost to 3 unranked teams this season... and now has 4 losses. Mississippi State has one more loss but has lost to 3 top-25 teams plus Auburn and Houston who have been ranked.

Blows my mind. The Florida win was more (or at least even) with the Iowa win but somehow the Hawkeyes get the nod from the machines.

Florida should NOT be #1. Struggled two weeks in a row.
Alabama squeeks by with blocked FG.

Neither of these two teams are deserving.

And Iowa deserves it after being outgained and getting a last second TD pass to beat a 4-4 team by 2 points?

I'm not concerned in this thread with whether or not Florida deserves it. The thing that pisses me off is that last week the computers had Florida at #1. Now Iowa passes them after barely squeeking by a .500 team? What did Iowa do to pass them exactly? That's my beef.

i agree they shouldn't be #1

but this is what the computer saw

penn state romped at michigan...we beat both but win at penn state carries more power....win at penn state a big reason computers like us.....

arizona won

iowa state won

also for all the iowa haters...if penn state who has romped everybody but iowa (granted the competition is questionable outside of iowa...but blowout at michigan says something)....beat iowa and was undefeated would be talking as much smack about penn state?

probably not (or not as much) since they are winning pretty vs. winning ugly

pulled this off an article

"There is no rational argument for any of the other undefeateds playing a more difficult schedule than Iowa: The Hawkeye's schedule-to-date is 18 games over .500; the next closest (Florida) is 2 over. That statistic, combined with four BCS-conference road wins, is enough to win over nearly every unfeeling electronic device."

in the end i see the computers balancing things out....human polls at #8 a bunch of bunk too

at this point #4 behind fl, ala, tex seems right to me...

computers ranked um #1...jake's rant about how iowa shouldn't be #1 ranked by computers (which i agree with)...humans ranked um #8....it averaged out to #4 after that....

at same time humans shouldn't have them #8 i would argue strongly....in the end the BCS equation seems to have worked out fine as far as iowa is concerned IMO..as i said above #4 seems right....

How is USC #4? They lose to an at best average Washington team. Struggle to hang on against Notre Dame and Oregon State? I still don't know how Ohio State managed to give that game away so at least those other teams are undefeated while the Trojans lost once and have had as many close calls as anyone else.

well its just kinda a mess right now cause most of the BCS conference teams haven't faced much of anybody

it'll get sorted out in the weeks to come

fl will meet bama if they run the table...

texas at oky state next week

usc plays oregon and arizona

and iowa at ohio state

like the above article says the whole problem is all the BCS conference undeafted's have played a bunch of crap....strictly by a record of the opponent faced standpoint iowa's schedule is clearly the toughest

Simple Stats can be sometimes very deceiving. Let's just follow your rational which you use to establish the fact that Iowa has a schedule in which their opponents are 18 games over .500. Iowa beat Northern Iowa 17-16 right ? Let's take a closer look at the 5-3 win loss record of Northern Iowa. Northern iowa beat South Dakota, St. Frances, Missouri St., Indiana St. and North Dakota St and lost to Southern Ill., Soulth Dakota St and of course Iowa. Impressive right ? I didn't think so either. Also let's keep in mind that the Little 10 has been a total flop in their BCS and other bowl games recently so nobody gets too excited when one of their teams are 7-0. Let's not forget how unbeatable Penn State was regarded last year. I think Iowa and their backers have to be very pleased with their season so far ! However don't allow yourselves to get carried away with your $$ should they happen to get into a bowl against Florida, USC, Alabama, Texas etc. GL to Iowa and their backers and I hope they make it to the big game. However if they meet Florida or USC in their Bowl game... I will be looking to cash in wagering against them !

iowa at 4 sounds about right. they have beaten 2 top 20 bcs teams this year (and 3 if you count the bowl game last year).

still think they get smashed by ohio state, but hopefully osu loses to penn st or michigan and iowa gets to the rose bowl and a shot at oregon or usc.

USC shouldnt even be in the top 10, a total joke

USC shows everyone why they aren't a total joke almost every Bowl season. The joke is almost always on those that wager against them !

your pointing to one game again in northern iowa and if you want to analyze deeper than....

obviously the northern iowa game really has no bearing to the rankings anyway...other than humans going oh...they needed two blocked FGs to beat um....

using analysis iowa was not 100% to start the season, our online was dinged up

we found out hampton (backup for shonn last year) was out for the season 2-3 days before the game...so it was a total scramble in the backfield....the guy that got the touches in the first half of the game to start the game since he's the only one that had any experience (o'meara) doesn't get 1 touch anymore...we gave robinson the rock in the 2nd half and he started to break some stuff...and wehger our other back didn't get a touch all game....our two running backs are true freshman...and going into northern iowa game they were expected to get zero touches....
