Ok, I have a challenge for anyone who fits the bill...

You like movies, but for whatever reason you haven't seen The Exorcist before. I'm guessing there have to be some guys out there that are younger than 30 who just never saw the flick. After all.. it's a 1973 movie. How scary can it be?

Here's the challenge. First.. reply to this thread to acknowledge that you like movies but you've never seen that movie. In your post, let us know when you can rent The Exorcist this week. Then come back and post your thoughts after you watch.

Come on, don't be a pussy. If you never saw it... let us know. Be sure to rent it this week and post your thoughts.

Watched it as a kid and it scared the shit out of me. Watched it 20 years later and found it disappointing and unintentionally funny. It's extremely dated. I don't see how anyone younger would find it scary.

It's 36 years old how interesting can it possibly be. It's like that ancient Jack Nicholson flick with the redrum thing and the two girls in the hallway. Sounds about as scary as a piece of toe lint.

Stuff like Hostel or some of the Saw movies put these oldies to shame

The film became one of the most profitable horror films of all time, grossing $402,500,000 worldwide.

The film earned ten Academy Award nominations—winning two, one for Best Sound and Best Adapted Screenplay, and losing Best Picture to The Sting.

It was named the scariest movie of all time by Entertainment Weekly and Movies.comand by viewers of AMC in 2006.

SoCal, you know what. I will make it a point to watch this movie. Sometime this week.

I will probably be wrong that it isn't that scary

I saw part of it at a drive-in about a year after it came out. I hadn't seen the whole thing so I decided to rent it a couple years ago.

Yawn.

for some reason it just never caught my interest and i like horror movies. maybe it's because i saw so many parodies about it as i was growing up that i already knew too much about it to be worth watching. i will add 3 bucks to my cable bill sometime this week and give it a look and reply back here. probably be tuesday night
No need to tack on the 3 bones

ok, now if you are going to watch it sooner and Rob... I mean do it a little justice. At least commit to watching it in one sitting and in the evening. I mean, pausing and talking on the phone or walking the dog is going to cheat yourself. you've gotta tune yourself to hear a story from start to finish. hopefully you guys live alone so there's no interuptions.

and yes, the first 20 minutes or so will feel like an out of date "lifetime" movie.

That's the whole point of watching a movie at home though! I pause it like 3-4 times no matter what it is. Bathroom breaks, food, phone calls, checking the forum, etc.

Dexter, I love this show. I can't make it through an episode without pausing it at least 2 times.

Oh that reminds me the new one should be out today right ? season 4 ep 5. I bet the FBI dude dies and Dex' sis lives and the trinity killer did it. At this point, Dexter will make it his personal mission to get the trinity killer.

Who's Johnny?! She said. And smiled in her special way

I know. Those Steve Gutenberg flicks from the 80's just don't amuse nearly as much anymore.

unfortunately it doesn't hold up, for it's time it was terrifying i'm told. My dad used to tell me it was the only movie that gave him nightmares. When it got re-released a few years ago I went the first night cause I had heard about it for so long but when you've seen the new breed of horror with the rings, the saws, the hostels, i'm not even talking the warped non mainstream stuff but just the regular run of the mill stuff that comes out now it doesn't compare. I'm sure in 20 years when some of our kids or grandkids or whatever pull out the stuff we talk about as scary now and watch it they'll laugh at us.

wrong turn is the one movie that has really given me the creeps in the past 10 years. i watched it not really knowing what it was about, and that part where the ole boy is hiding under the bed......man, i was on the edge of my seat after that.....hostel is a close second, and the saw movies, but mainly for the gross out effect, it seems like they always make me sit back and say "what the fuck're they about to show?"

The ONLY way to get into a decent thriller or strong drama when watching at home is to shut off all the lights, turn off your fuckin' phone, crank up the surround sound and make like you're in a movie theatre.

There's no doubt that any interuptions will dilute the experience and if you're deliberately breaking the presentation down into a half dozen segments so you can make phone calls, post on the Rx or check out sports scores, you're assured a distinctly different experience than having seen the movie in theatre-like atmosphere.
