I have a punch I love to make for parties. We are having a costume party for Halloween and I am going to make the punch.. However, I heard that if I use Dry Ice it will create "smoke" coming out of the punch.. Is this true. I never used Dry Ice before... It there any advantages or concerns I should consider before buying dry ice?

Receipe is Below, you can do alot of variations with the Alcohol

Combine:

1 Package of Orange KoolAid
1 Package of Fruit Punch KoolAid
6 oz Frozen Lemonade
6 oz Frozen Orange Juice
2 quarts of water ( i use warm water to dissolve faster)
1.5 cups of Sugar

Stir well until Sugar is dissolved.

Remember with Alcohol: You can add almost anything, in almost any amounts. This is for STRONG alcohol

.5 liter of Vodka (it normally calls for 1.5 cups)
.5 liter of Barcardi Rum (it normally calls for 1.5 cups)
1 bottle of Champagne (optional)

I normally don't use champagne, because we like to get drunk. I have even put it everclear (grain alcohol), and moonshine into it. Lately, I have skipped the vodka and doubled the Rum. Mainly because I am picky about my vodka, I love absolute, but its expensive, and rum is inexpensive.

ADD:

2 liter of Ginger Ale (or Sprite)
and Ice and Stir

seems kinda light on alcohol, anytime ive made a form of jungle use in a standard dispensing cooler size container, ive used two handles into it. but those were for college football tailgates and probably why alot of people got knocked out

Nothing hazardous about the dry ice. Alcoholic punch especially vodka based is the finest panty remover around.

good recipe. I thought you could not "consume" dry ice (as in put it in a drink). I know not to touch it. Anyone know for a fact. I was going to put the punch bowl in a deep tray and surround it by dry ice..Give me the facts jack..

will look cool with the smoke. Dry Ice here is about $5 per pound and you will need to keep in in a COOLER with a towel wraped around it and the cool shut tight for it to last before you use it for the punch don't put it in the freezer it will melt. Just keep the air away from it and buy it the same day you want to use it.

You wouldn't want it to touch your lips, so maybe use a straw if you do this.

I have been using dry ice for 25 years. We used to make dry ice bombs in college (UF). Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide so it will add a little bit of carbonation to your punch. I would not add the champagne to the punch (extra carbonation and the puke factor from mixing). I actually prefer to break the dry ice into small chunks (wearing gloves) and put a little bit into each drink because it will "burn off" after a few minutes. It is cool because your drink will smoke for a little while. Of course you have to use a straw in the drink so you don't burn your mouth. DO NOT TOUCH THE DRY ICE WITH YOUR HANDS. It burns.

If you add it to the whole punch bowl, wait until you are ready to serve it. Instead of adding the sugar directly into the punch I would heat it up in hot water over the stove (simple syrup) and then cool it off before you add it. This will help dissolve the sugar better so it isn't grainy.

Good Luck and enjoy!

The dry ice will "burn" you because it is freezed at a much, much lower temperature than water. As the previous poster said, it is frozen carbon dioxide. Freezing temp for CO2 is -78.5C vs. 0C for water. The smoke coming from off is the CO2 changing into gasseous form. This coldness will transfer to your body and freeze you rather easily. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT ingest or touch the dry ice with bare skin. Have fun at the party, but always remember that safety is first.
