Just started playing a few months ago and I am addicted. Not great at hitting the ball consistently or straight for that matter but pretty comfortable on the green. Any pointers that can help a rookie out?

Think about where you want to hit it, not where you dont want to hit it.

I live on a course and own a cart...Does that count? I usually just ride around and smoke trees though!

It is more mental just than anything, and it is a something that can be fun if you play with the right people even if you stink. I picked it up about 2 years ago. I play at least 3 times a month and am still not that great. there is lots of websites that have tips and grip strategies that are useful, my favorite is the swing champ<br><a href="http://4f28fgpxu5q2twgdnk7gj-rp9o.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_top">The Dave Way</a><br><a href="http://32f14nr9zvmazriawpvkrgw-br.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_top">Golf Swing Guru</a><br><a href="http://7de40ss-ux-9y4ckfak6vi2y4h.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_top">Swing Champ</a><br><a href="http://1ed17om2tvr30rhik-iq50xb2y.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_top">Power Golf Program</a><br><a href="http://cea60osz7z-0yw9y-5iacq4x54.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_top">How to break 80</a><br>Just be patient and keep playing, remember tiger doesnt hit that ball perfect everytime (<)<

I've been a club pro and teaching pro for over 15 years.

Two things, take a series of lessons and get fit for a good set of golf clubs. If you can't afford to do both at the same time, go see your local pro and see which one he thinks needs to be done first.

Or tell me and I will give you my opinion.

the best advice you will receive, and the WORST ADVICE is this,,,,

you must learn to FLIP your WRIST, all distance is achieved with Ones wrist break, NOT their Bicep,,,

If youve ever seen pro golfers they all are 5'8 and weigh 160 pounds,, you need very little muscle to hit the ball 300 yards.

about 9 years ago I was watching an infomercial, "hit the ball as straight as you can point"

I think that was the name,,, that is the SIMPLEIST and greatest single video Ive ever seen,,

so lol, good luck,,

Lessons!!!

Hands down no doubt not even close the best 200 dollars i spent was on 4 lessons. It is an amazing game but even more incredible when you play well. Talk to some people (not people that work at the courses you play) but other "players" and ask who they recommend/respect as a golf lesson teacher. My game improved nearly 40 strokes after those 4 lessons. I took them early enough to where I didn't create any bad habits that had to be "fixed." Also wait about 2 weeks between each lesson so that you can work on the things and perfect the things that you were taught. Lastly, go to the driving range. That is where you get BETTER and can USE the things you learned. After you do it on the range it will become second nature on the course. And congrats for taking up such a great, relaxing, and beautiful game. Oh btw I just started in January 2008 so I am very familiar with what you are feeling. Enjoy the hell out of it buddy!

Driving Range every single day you can and lessons. Nothing wrong with practicing more then you play. Putt at home, swing outside with no balls if neccessary, I go to the range during lunch atleast 3 times a week. Find and rythm and then youll feel it on the course. I, think you can never get enough practice and tweeking!! GL

A teacher is a must, and one you feel comfortable with..Many teach different ways to swing etc, you need to make sure that fits were you want your game to go...And then it is Practice and more Practice, beating balls on the range or short range..and then to the putting clock...simple as that!

Once you've got a fairly consistent swing, step up and hit it. Forget the practice swings. Don't make others have to wait for your slow play.

Drive for show, CHIP and Putt for dough!!!!!!

  • Work on your short game
  • When you go to the range, always start with your wedge or 9 iron
  • Work on your bump and run around the putting greens
  • KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN
When you start staying in the low-mid 90's, I agree with Bullets, go get fitted for clubs

Find your swing.
Learn how to hit down on the ball.
Your wrists are the key to your power.
Keep your left arm straight.
Tempo,Tempo,Tempo
Listen to the ball. You'll know you're hitting it better by the sound.
Have Fun.

Depends what your playing with now. If you have an old set of blades or a Ram package set, its time to upgrade.

On the other hand, if you have a set that has some quality, take the lessons.

Whats in your bag?

Totally agree with the short game advice. When I'm getting up and down from off the green most of the time (admittedly not the majority of rounds), I shoot about 5 strokes a round better. Absolutely critical to scoring.

I also use the following acronym for the full swing:

STEW =

S= Slow Backswing
T= Make a full Turn
E= Keep the right Elbow close to your body (assuming you're righthanded)
W= Watch the ball until and through the time the club hits it
