McPrank: 4 teens cited for McDonald’s rap

The teens say they were imitating a popular video on YouTube

SALT LAKE CITY - A rap by four teenagers at a McDonald's has gotten them a bad rap in one Utah city.
The teens were cited by American Fork police earlier this week for disorderly conduct after they rapped their order at a McDonald's drive-through.
The teens said they were imitating a popular video on YouTube. They rapped their order, which begins with, "I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce ..." once quickly before repeating it more slowly.

Spenser Dauwalder said employees at the restaurant told him and his friends they were holding up the line and needed to order or leave.
The 18-year-old said nobody was in line. He and his three 17-year-old friends left without buying anything.

American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow says a manager wrote down the car's license plate number and called police. The teens were later cited by officers at a high school parking lot outside a volleyball match.

"We thought, you know, just teenagers out having fun," Dauwalder told KSL Newsradio. "We didn't think it would escalate to that."

‘They continued to hold things up’

Disorderly conduct citations are issued when someone does something to cause annoyance or alarm, Ludlow said. The citation is an infraction similar to a speeding ticket, Ludlow said.

"It was not just that they were rapping, they continued to hold things up," Ludlow said.

Ludlow said the teens were asked several times to speak plainly and that ultimately the manager came outside.

Not sure...LOL But I left out this Part

The owner-operator of the McDonald's said in a statement that the issue was about employees' safety at the restaurant in American Fork, about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.

"The employee in question felt that her safety was at risk as a result of the alleged actions of these individuals in the drive-thru, not as a result of them rapping their order," franchisee Conny Kramer said in the statement. "As such, she contacted the local authorities."
:ohno:
But Sharon Dauwalder, Spenser's mother, said they will fight it nonetheless.
"We have to," she told The Associated Press on Thursday. "The citation is there."

ya know, it's refreshing to hear some kids having some good ole harmless fun. at least they weren't brawling in the street to get on youtube or doing a drive by shooting of their rivals' neighborhood. these kids should get an award and be interviewed on TV.

Apparently in Utah this is just as bad as brawling.

How exactly did they continue to hold things up? What was the "alleged actions"? Something is not being said here.

Come on people.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It was inappropriate to do what they were doing. "Holding things up" means preventing the woman from doing her job by harassing her. She could have been doing something else (stacking Quarter Pounder boxes? I don't know. whatever stuff needs to be done to run a restaurant) instead of trying to figure out what these jerks wanted to order.

Doing it ONE time and laughing about it with friends might be acceptable. But continuing to rap their order after the woman asks for clarification is NOT.

Anyone with discipline would understand this.

How were they holding her up from doing anything? If no one was behind them then there was no one else trying to order. So if she had other things to do she could of easily ignored them and went on with her business. I am sure if someone would have pulled in behind the kids they would have left. If they would have kept going around and around in the drive-through and rapping thats one thing, but they didn't. Kids will be kids. Its laughable that cops wasted their time arresting these kids. None of these kids had any prior arrest or anything like that. Its a joke...get over it.

So let me get this straight.

Some kids making $0/hour sang a song.

This caused some other kid making $6/hr to waste 10 minutes.

This caused her to call some police (trust me they probably sent 3 or 4) making $40/hour to go find the $0/hour kids.

This has now caused some lawyers making $100s/hour to waste hours in court with a judge making $75/hr.

Good use of time and money.

Good point sean1.

So if I were the Honorable Quantum Leap I would judge like this:

10 minutes time of someone making $6/hr. = $1

The cops didn't need to go so the fine for that = $0

The lawyers are whores for getting involved so the fine for them = $0

Total = $1.

Kids pay $1 and get the citation taken off their record upon payment.

Case closed!
