Eventually the routine gets quite old (at some point I looked for a 2nd job just to go outside and meet/talk to other people)

I work the business end at home via conversations or email. Out on a job site, construction, I get a nice dose of both. Meeting people and knowing how to respond is key. Provide what you tell them and all will be well.

At home, if strictly run from the home, you need to be diligent and keep distractions to a minimum.

I made a living from home for several years but like Wolfie mentioned it can become very lonely and monotonous.I went out and got a part time job too just to add some normality to my life.

I have done both to the extreme - Tended bar for around 20 years which puts you in touch with people all the time and I loved it but unfortunately I needed to quit drinking myself (sober 20 years come April) I loved tending bar and FWIW was very good at it.

Moderating: next month will mark 6 years that I have been here at The Rx working as a moderator (over four as head mod). Two extremely different occupations but I have no complaints to voice towards either. As a mod you have to have a little bit of a thick skin so that insults like being called the name of some dead dictator once in a while doesn't bother you.

I like working at home but am not in anyway anti social.

Will, this is your only job? I have no idea how much work you do on a daily basis but must be more than I thought.

Work at home, not for lazy people. I really mean that, if you aren't someone who goes into work with a plan and actually works, you will suck at working from home. Too many distractions like tv, house work, etc.

However, if you are self-motivated you can actually get more done because people aren't there all the time bugging you, you can set your own hours, etc.

I work from home at times for my job and I get less done than when I'm in my office at work.

working at home is a trap. It's a lonely, boring life.

Even if you are a garbage man, you need the human interaction.

That's sweet that you get paid for being a mod on this forum. I am sure you do much more around here then any of us could think of and I thankyou for that. I am home all of the time and I would probably be better off with what I do if I made up a thread about you and BAS and got myself banned from here, but I enjoy therx. I consider BAS and a few other day posters here my co-workers during the day.

As far as working from home and not meeting people. When you live in an innercity you don't have a problem socializing. At times I feel that I have to many friends. When I did have a 9-5 I never hung out with them after work even though they bothered me non-stop too. Work relationships should be left in work. I have seen some bad shit go down when people get together after work. Especially when you start hammering a girl from your job.

well its a trap kind of sorta

trust me that I dont like the traffic jams......the road rage......the crazy drivers........the blablabla.......the gas spent........the time lost going to/from work......etc etc

you do have to be sort of disciplined (funny its me the one saying it) when it comes to food.....you can really lose control if you take a trip to the fridge every now and then

like others have said, its not for the lazy or disorganized........it only works if you could already work without supervision

I've operated various business enterprises out of my home for almost a quarter century now.

I don't haveit as easy as Steak or BAS, but I like it a lot. :toast:
