If you could live anywhere in the country and your income is 40-50K where would you live and why?

Without question San Diego. You can get a reasonably priced apartment near the beach/bay. The weather is nice 365 days a year.

40-50k is a little slim for SD county (even like Oceanside).

50k should be pretty good down south ( Fla, Ala,Texas, Miss/sipi, etc.)

50k ish is about USPS money, the boys down south live good on that, not so good in a place like Boston. Puerto Rico would be good on 50k, and still be the US.

Not enough info... What are you looking for?

If you want a cool place, with young people, I'd suggest either Portland Oregon or somewhere on the southern half of the east coast... I had thoughts about moving to Charleston SC and visited down there, it was amazing and cheap (compared to metro boston). I have friends in Portland who say its amazing; cool people, great beer - and you can't rent an apartment downtown for around 1100.

agree with that, without having lived in either area.

My goal would be to be able to own a modest home/ condo on that 40-50k, be able to live alone ( and still afford that mortgage), and still be able to have some money to dine out/date,etc. Sort of do a little better than just live paycheck to paycheck in a rental apt, if I were in that situation. Nice warm weather would be nice, too.

I think some part of Fla fits that lifestyle well enough ( with the 50k income), SD is pricier. I think PR would be great on 50k !

I am single, no kids, and Iowa is a definite NO. For everyone do not EVER move to Iowa. I live IN Des Moines. Winters get to cold and it is LAME and BORING as fuck....period

New mexico = high male to female ratio I believe

I mean, not that it has to matter. Crime also very high per capita I believe.

As a younger guy, I always look for safe urban areas that I can live in so that I can walk to bars and shit... Want to be near the nightlife, and able to bring it home with me. Again, not sure if this is important to you, but having grown up in a city I can't live without it.
