I will be going to my 7th wedding in 2009 tomorrow and sadly not my last. This will be the second wedding that is on a Friday. Thankfully the others in the past were on Saturdays and the future ones this year are also on a Saturday. I am so sick of the same old shit, and sadly the wife has been a part of the bridal party in 5 of the weddings. So that means for every fucking wedding she is in the bridal party she has to buy the bridesmaid dress and I have to go to the annoying rehearsal dinners. I have no problem giving these people a card with money in it. I just wish I didn't have to waste either a Friday or Saturday night sitting at a table drinking beer that I would never drink, and not being able to watch sports. No one cares about the stupid first dance, what the best man has to say, and how great they are together. I sure as hell don't and I would say 95% of the people there dont. You want people to actually enjoy and remember your wedding. Just invite the people who are involved in your everyday life and family. They care or have a bar with a TV, and a huge selection of beers.

My wedding cost a fortune.
Back to the topic at hand, 75% of the time I'd rather bludgeon my temple with a spade shovel than go to a wedding, but if it's a close friend, cool people, open bar, good food, then I don't mind.

Wow. Seven weddings in one year.... I feel for you man. You must be in your late 20's or so.

Even worse is that most of these were for your wife's friends. I suppose you are also read the riot act on how you are supposed to act, etc. It really gets irritating watching these bridezillas in action. Open bar alleviates that somewhat though, and depending where you are you may be able to sneak out and watch a game if the venue has a bar (motel, etc.).

The dressing up is the worst part.

I hate setting foot in a church, if it is a church wedding, since I am an devout atheist.

The food is usually very good at a wedding reception.

all told, I'd rather not attend a wedding.

funerals and weddings are the same thing, IMO, but funerals take less time.

I hate weddings, and is why wife and I went to the JOP.

I did the Vegas thing, Treasure Island to be specific, never even thought about sticking the wife's father with a bill for 50-100k or more, and he was a millionaire.

I regret getting married more with each day that passes, more and more. There is not a woman on this planet, that I'd take as my second wife.

I'm one and done, as far as being married.

There is no way that I will marry a women who demands a wedding. It's either the courthouse, Vegas, or somewhere in the Caribbean.

No better test of your True Manhood than to be able to get loose from a wedding reception (or better yet, the wedding itself) and be watching a major league or Div 1 college sports event live.

A guy I know here in Tampa tells the story of how last year when Kentucky and Florida went to that 45-38 finish, he had just arrived at a wedding reception held at the bride's parents house.

Got there about halftime and asked if there were any plans to fire up the main TV in the den to the game and was told by the Bridezilla's mom, "No way....this is a wedding reception, not a sportsbar!"

So he grabbed a couple drinks and slid away from the main group of over 100 people (in house and out by pool etc)....walked quietly upstairs to a back bedroom where he finds a TV. Shuts the door and fires up the game with the sound down low.

A few minutes later, another guy comes in the room and is, "All right....thank God!"

By the time the final few minutes was playing out, there were like 15 guys all crammed into this bedroom watching the game and the sound was all the way up.

I haven't attended a wedding in a decade but the ones I went to or were part of the wedding party I had a good time. Good food, drink and women.

Now though with my weekends being so precious to me I would rather sleep in, eat a late breakfast and watch some movies from my recliner.
