Ricky Stanzi hit in End Zone fumbles and injures ankle. Lose 17-10 to NWestern.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)—Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was taken to the locker room after being hit in the end zone in the second quarter of the No. 8 Hawkeyes’ game against Northwestern.

Stanzi was drilled by Corey Wootton, and his fumble was recovered by Marshall Thomas for a touchdown that brought Northwestern within 10-7.

Stanzi was limping as he was helped off the field. He was replaced by redshirt freshman James Vandenberg, whose first pass was intercepted.

Stanzi was 4 of 9 for 134 yards with a touchdown and an interception before leaving the game. He came into the game 17-3 as the starter since taking over the middle of last season.

I think they lost to a bowl eligible team (Chinese Plum Bowl) so the loss ain't so bad.

I figured Fishhead would have started this thread..Beat by a very very average NW team.....But then again the Big 10 is a crap conference any way.

Don't have anything against Iowa, but I'm tired of the Big 10 love. So I was rooting for Northwestern.

You know, the same Northwestern that couldn't beat Syracuse.

well when u got a redshirt freshman in at QB with 3 passes all year and probably gets hardly any reps in practice have to come in with the miracle season on the line its all basically riding on his shoulders and it didn't happen...plus our running game was nonexistent as loss of robinson really hurts us there as well..

wegher a big broke one but there was a hold on the play...and our D couldn't come up with a big turnover for points we needed today...NW played a very smart game once stanzi went down....stay very conservative and don't make bad turnovers.....i tip my cap...

said a few weeks back we were one key offensive injury away from disaster...and today was that day....

but eh...keep er...comin'....LOL

The Iowa defense is one of the top three units in the country, if not the best.

On the offensive side of the ball, the unit has just been devastated by injuries all season long at EVERY position..........amazing the year Iowa has put together considering this fact.

Iowa has a TON to look forward to next season, and still this year, considering they will have practically their entire team back and then some considering Jewell Hampton should be back 100% after missing the entire year this season.

Top RB's Wegher, Robinson, and Hampton will all only be sophmores next season..........WOW.........and all three of these have had banner freshman campaigns.............plus they have Brinson and Rodgers also who are both highly touted 1st and 2nd year players. I can't recall an Iowa team being this loaded with quality depth at the running back position.

Basically Iowa only has to replace a couple linebackers and a couple offensive lineman for next season, as every other player and then some(injured players, recruits, redshirts) will be back.............and one of the reason I mentioned in another thread that one could possibly make a case for them entering the season at #1.............having said that, IT WILL BE VERY TOUGH FOR IOWA TO LIVE UP TO PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS NEXT SEASON.

I could see Iowa having a season very comparable to OLE MISS next season, where they will in all liklihood make an appearance in the top five early and then hang around 12th-24th the remainer of the year after an upset loss early on.

You're Kidding Right?

Hell they're not even the best D in the B10, OSU holds that spot and will show it next Sat.! Iowa lacks speed in the DL, their LB's are decent, but aren't in Fl or OU's league. Your judgement is impaired here Fish, by your "homerism". Yes they have a good B10 D, but play in a league that is way below avg. on the offensive side of the ball. This is the worst group of QB's in one league I've ever seen. There is not one that could crack the starting LU for any other top 10 team. Hell as much as I dislike Boise, Moore is better than any QB in the B10, including overrated Pryor & Clark. And I've been a B10 follower for 60 yrs. Your comments re. next yr. are most likely right. This yr? Capital One vs Boise or LSU.

No speed on the DL???? Christian Ballard was a speed rusher at DE that had to be move to the inside to make room for Binns and Clayborn is having an All-american type year at DE and is dominant speed rusher.

LB Pat Angerer just "decent"??........lol.

Funny, you didn't even give mention the secondary that leads the country in interceptions entering yesterdays game. Tyler Sash will be strongly considered for first team All-American honors at safety and Spivey at CB is without question one of the best conners in the country(and may not return if he heads to the NFL next season as a junior).

Last but not least to show you have no clue, BOISE STATE cannot play in the Capital One bowl, that is only for SEC and BIG TEN schools..............but your right, that is probably where Iowa is headed to play this year.

Also, Ohio State will hold Iowa to less then 13 pts next week as Iowa will basically have no QB, and this Iowa offense with Stanzi was below average.

Think about this, you fully know how sub-par Iowa's offense has been this season and they ALONE have allowed their opponents to score via interception returns and fumble returns, plus they give away solid field position on numerous occassions either by turning the ball over with no returns or just having very few sustained drives.

Think about what I just said above and you will completly agree with me.........right?

Now having said that..................

IOWA has not allowed an opponent to score over 30 points in twenty-six straight games!!

Why?..........becasue they have one of the TOP FIVE defensive units in all of college football..........make no mistake about it, this is a very, very, top notch defensive unit that has no weaknesses.

If CINCY or BOISE STATE had Iowa's defense, they would be unbeatable.

Impressive, but you have to consider their conference. The Big 10 still plays 1978 football.

Ohio State probably had a similar streak before allowing 41 to Florida and 38 to LSU.

You're The One W/O A Clue

Run D: OSU 3rd; PSU 14th; Iowa 38th
Pass D: OSU 11th; PSU 9th, Iowa 16th
Scoring D; OSU 4th, PSU 3rd, Iowa 13
Total; OSU 6th; PSU 8th, Iowa 14th

Make up your mind, first they were "the best", then "top 3", then "one of the top 5". It's not hard to be ranked this high in a QB poor league like the B10. Schools like Cincy, Houston, Stanford, Oregon, hell even Boise would roll on that D. and YES they are slow when compared to the elite defensive tms, such as Bama, Fl, even TCU! You're usually more rational than this. You're letting your heart overrule your brain. I don't think they'll get an offensive 6 vs OSU.
