Just like there used to be so many pure shooters in the NBA which all but disappeared up to this new era, It's now the great defenders you rarely see.

There used to be so many......

Going all the way back to Wilt Chamberlain & others, to Michael Cooper, Kareem, etc. later on, all the way to pre-2000 with Dennis Rodman, Joe Dumars, Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Oakley, Dikembe Mutombo, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen, Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning, David Robinson, and so many others.

There are still a few around, like Kobe, and those who will soon be gone like Duncan and Garnett, but eventually, it looks as if the NBA will be a league full of offensive-minded players, and maybe even coaches, who want to run the same style we see more & more of........The Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, whoever else I left out, and this years latest addition to the run & gun style, the Houston Rockets.

They disappear because the NBA likes SCORING, that's the reason there's a foul call every other play.

I would rather watch a high school basketball game any day of the week over an NBA game. The NBA is a fucking joke.

rules of the game are for the offense, just like in football.

you touch the QB, you get a 15 yard penalty.

it isnt good for the sport, but people want to see TD's, dunks, et.

Rx Management puts zero pressure on it's mods to create threads. There are no quotas or minimums for any mods to create new threads. All mods are on their own when it comes to creating thread topics. What we are expected to do is answer questions (within reason) when posters ask something in a thread. That doesn't mean if a poster asks whats a good price for a lawn mower a mod has to answer. I am talking about questions about the site and it's sponsors mainly or gambling in general.

Hache is an avid NBA fan so he is more apt to post a thread that deals with the NBA than say OldManTed who loves horses (and other sports).

Creating a popular thread without going all dramatic is not as easy as it may sound to some people. Getting 30 or 40 replies and 400 views is not a cinch.

Regarding this topic - Excellent Defensive players in The NBA.

Defense in the NBA has changed over the decades. I recall the great Boston Celtic dynasty of the late 50s and the entire decade of the 60s. The Celts were renown for their fast break style of offense which had a tendency to inflate scoring but that team was led arguably by the best defensive player to ever play in the league in Hall of Famer Bill Russell.

Russell's defensive dominance on the opponents glass was the catalyst that ignited the famous Celtic fast break. Bill was a master of pulling down a defensive rebound and hitting deadly accurate passes to speedy guards like Bod Cousy, K.C. Jones etc streaking down one sideline or another on the Celtic break. Russell picked up plenty of points as a trailer off his own defensive rebound by hustling down court after making an outlet pass..

That was some beautiful basketball.
