There's a multi page thread on a Broncos board that I post at about this.

I just don't see Mike Shanahan going to the NCAA. Even though it gets his kid a top spot at a Big 12 school and he gets to live in his 35,000 S.F. crib year round.

yeah, his name's been uttered since the CSU loss. Outside what you already mentioned, he has many business interests in Denver too.

I'd take any of the them over Hawkins.

Agree 100%!

Shanny is looking to land one of those primo NFL jobs for very large green(and he's still being paid by Denver). Don't see him in the NCAA...just don't see it...

Yup.

Monte did it for Lane b/c he was a career coordinator anyway...Not a HC. And he's almost 70.

Shannahan is only 56 and with the recent trend of fresh face youngsters getting their shots at HC gigs....It would be a mistake for him to step away from the pro game if only for a few years. His value will never be higher than it is right now. Demand for his services will only decrease over time. He needs to strike while the iron is hot in 2010 or 2011.

I think he ends up in GB. McCarthy will probably be on the block if they miss the playoffs. They've got the pieces in place where a refreshed Shanahan can have them in SB contention by year 2. He won't want a total rebuild or an over involved owner.

Shanahan turned down Florida in 2001 (before they hired Zook). He was a former OC at Florida under Galen Hall. It would be surprise if he took a college job.

It really surprises me that Hawkins has failed at Colorado. Peterson (at Boise) is a hot prospect and always rumored for one of the "big" BCS jobs....but he's a Hawkins protoge, right? I thought for sure he would succeed at Colorado.

Peterson was the wizard behind the curtain when Hawkins was at Boise State. I think all of the AD's know that by now. Peterson will get a job at a BCS school when the offer is right, and it's someplace he thinks he can win. It would be funny if Colorado fired Hawkins and hired Peterson. Hawkins would probably shoot himself if that happened.
