The UI and the voice activated search & GPS functions look great. The car dock & home dock is a sweet idea too.
I've been anticipating this thing since it was announced but finally got to see one at Best Buy yesterday and was really disappointed by the physical QWERTY. Not only how flat it is but the keys felt mushy and required alot of pressure. I've been a Treo guy forever so I really prefer the 'rice krispy' keys and offset QWERTY rows. Plus you can't one hand text with a landscape keyboard.
The build is excellent though. Outstanding looking phone, great fit and finish and it's got nice heft.
Still on the fence.....I'm going to wait until after the first of the year for sure to see if A) there's a price drop & B) If anything else major gets announced.
Early adopters get screwed in the U.S. cell phone biz like nowhere else b/c of the stupid subsidized pricing structure/2 year contracts.
I checked it out a few days ago, and I agree with the post above about the keyboard... Its just not very well designed. I also noticed more lag when it comes to transitions than on the iphone. Multitouch is also still not up to the level of the iphone.

I'm getting a new phone soon and was looking at both these at the store. My buddy has the tour and loves it.. the number one thing I noticed is how fast the internet on the Droid is. It opened webpages about 10x faster than any of the blackberries.. just as fast as the iphone. It also has some crazy apps.. built in turn-by-turn navigation from google maps, a barcode scanner that gives you info and prices on any product, tons of games and shit, etc. Just dont know if I want to get the first version of the phone bound to be some things they improve on soon..
I agree about over hyping can destroy phones. (see the STORM)...it was so over hyped and BIG P.O.S.
Jake, could you ask your buddy, what phones they recommend. I'm looking for a smartphone with physical keyboard...right now my choices are either DROID or Touch Pro 2.
Could you see what they have to say about the touch pro 2.(assuming they know their shit)
