It's not a right of passage as the emailer suggests, the Faroe Islands are fairly independent from Denmark and the hunt accounts for 25% of their food consumption for the year.

Just curious how do you think Indians view our cow consumption?

From what I understand they are not concerned, they dont eat cows because they think they are their ancestors. What we do with ours is not their problem.

Typical American wanting to stick their nose in everybody elses business...If its their food & tradition thats fine but the only way Id have something to say negative about it is if the species were threatened by over harvestation similar to certain species of Whales a while back..In that case they had a ligitimate bitch...If this is not the case with these Dolphins then Americans should butt out & mind their own fucking business for a change.

Is it necessary to mention that the dolphin Calderon, like all the other species of dolphins, it’s near extinction and they get near men to play and interact. In a way of PURE friendship.....................Ok Scott L my bad I didnt read the whole article...I agree they should stop this practice if the species is near extinction..If that is truly the case & not just something made up U are absolutely right.

Anyone who eats Dolphin is a scumbag IMO. It is 100x worse than eating dogs. Dolphins are some of the most peaceful, intelligent animals out there. On top of that, they are tortured before they are killed due to the fact it makes their meat taste better.

Henious act.

The hunt accounts for 30% of the Islands food supply.

Due to their northern climate the food supply is limited.

Just curious do you have an apprehensions about eating pork?

Yes, I VERY seldomly eat pork not only is it unhealthy. I also don't like the thought of eating pig.

Anyhow, I wasn't aware of the circumstances behind this "ritual". If I had known the food supply was limited I wouldn't have made those comments. It appears it's in their culture, and I respect that.

That said, watching and hearing about it still disgusts me very much.

In the name of Gadhimai

Olivia Lang in Bariyapur -
guardian uk

The world's biggest animal sacrifice began in Nepal today with the killing of the first of more than 250,000 animals as part of a Hindu festival in the village of Bariyapur, near the border with India.

The event, which happens every five years, began
with the decapitation of thousands of buffalo, killed in honour of Gadhimai, a Hindu goddess of power.

With up to a million worshippers on the roads near the festival grounds, this year's fair seems more popular than ever, despite vocal protests from animals rights groups who have called for it to be banned. "It is the traditional way, " explained 45-year old Manoj Shah, a Nepali driver who has been attending the event since he was six, "If we want anything, and we come here with an offering to the goddess, within five years all our dreams will be fulfilled." .
