......there was ONLY one game. Packers vs. Lions. And if that's not bad enough, they didn't even have plastic helmets. I don't know what they were made of, but my father bought me one that was black and red, and looked liked the old Michigan helmets but a different color. No one had any kind of face masks. They wouldn't come in until years later when the helmets were made of plastic.

The day would start with Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was great as a kid watching all those balloons floating in the sky. Next was the Mummers Parade which came out of Philly. I don't even know if they have that parade any more. It seemed like it was a bunch of guys covered in feathers and playing instruments. Maybe someone from Philly would know.

And finally the game would start. I had to watch it on our old 9" black and white screen which got shipped up to our converted attic that was now my bedroom and rec room. I always rooted for the Packers because they had green colors. I guess the Thanksgiving game was my first exposure to NFL football. It's an experience that I'll probably never forget.

my fondest thanksgiving memory was the first time i got high. i had gone out hunting with my brothers, and when we were coming back in to go to thanksgiving dinner, my two older brothers started passing around a pepsi can they were using as a pipe. so i got high. it was like 10:00 in the morning, and i swear i never felt anything.

anyway, a couple hours later we were sitting at the dinner table at my uncle larry and aunt mary's -- this was also the first year i was able to sit with the adults, as the kids had their own folding table they sat at. so i'm sitting there and i look up at my dad, and suddenly his bald head and masticating jaws set me off. i couldn't stop laughing. all conversation stopped and everyone looked at me except dad -- first thing he did was shoot a pissed off glance at my brothers. my oldest brother says "don't look at me, he's been like this all day", which caused me to crack up even harder.

The Bears stealing a game in Detroit. Scored at the end of the game to tie, then David Williams returned the opening KO in OT to win it.

The Mummers parade stems from a UK tradition, down near where my grandparents live I believe.

I thought it was a New Years not Thanksgiving parade though..

Never forget that. I was just a kid. Think it is still the shortest overtime game still.

Milt Plum

1962 Milt Plum passes for 2 TD's in 26-14 Detroit win ! That was Green Bay's only loss in another Championship year. Green Bay had Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Jerry Kramer, Forrest Gregg, Willie Wood, Jordan, Herb Adderley, Ray Nitschke, Willie Davis ! Wow ! Detroit defeats this team ?

Dante,I remember that game well when that idiot ref Phil Luckett blew that for the Steelers and that Hanson kicked the game winning FG for the Lions and had a bad Thanksgiving that day.

Game of the Century

1971 in Norman, OK

NU 35 OU 31

To this day best game ever played as it met the hype and exceeded it. From Johnny Rodgers scintillating punt return to open the scoring to Jeff Kinne's 4th TD run giving Big Red the win late, the game was flawlessly played with one penalty for 5 yards.

Great season as two days later two SEC unbeatens played as the #3 and #4 teams with Bama coasting by Heisman winner Pat Sullivan and Auburn.
