I have always wondered this. It's $80 a year and Ive always renewed, but my cousin told me today I don't need it.

So, do I ? or is there something else that is better, cheaper, free,,etc......that I can be using? (I hate McAfee.)

AVG and Avast are Good ones......Don't know Dantes, but I'm sure it's good as well.

Almost anything is better than Norton.

Avg is the best free out there. I have several friends and family that have used it for years with no problems.

Norton is a system resource sucker. If you try to delete it always leaves crap on the HD.

if its a free one you get what you pay for.... I had avast free and it missed a TON of spyware and stuff on my pc the one I use now Vipre finds it all and it does not take the speed of loading from your pc.

people wont blink an eye betting $5000 on a game but for 50$ or less to get a good virus software program we can not do that

its hilarious

avg will slow your computer down,

Norton is GROSSLY overrated, it honestly is sht,,,

avast is good,
Malwarebyes is FREE and pretty good,

if you want a Great one it is a pay for,, it is a-squared they are the best out there, and I think I payed 39 for 1 year,,,less than 80. and they wont slow down your comp wolf.

a-squared are the only Live spyware blocker and cookie blocker, the wont let them even download.

(they block successfully all of the RX popups and spyware! haha)

I'm thinking of getting rid of AVG. It does seem to slow my comp down. I liked it at first.

Norton is bloatware, but the latest Norton 2009 did a better job than any of the previous NAV in terms of not slowing your computer down as much.

I use Avast. It's free, minimal on system resources, updates on its own and catches viruses, much better than that condom that broke on me last week.

yep...I have had two good three good HP PCs over past ten years and never paid for antivirus (nor ever picked up a crippling virus) during that time.

I had AVG but it slowed down my computer while surfing. I disabled the Link Scanner and it's fine now.

The Link Scanner scans your web pages for viruses as you access them. This is unnecessary since AVG also scans files as they are saved to your hard drive.

Is it hard to disable ?
