CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bearcats' football coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday that he understands that sports writers feel the need to discuss the head coaching job at Notre Dame and whether Kelly wants it.
Just don't talk to him about it.
"It's irrelevant. It's absolutely irrelevant," Kelly said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference. "All that other stuff is going to have to wait for another time."
Kelly said he, the coaches and players are all focused on one thing: Saturday's game at Pittsburgh.
"I'll have them ready. We've done it (won a regular-season game) 17 times in a row. We're going to be OK, we're going to stay focused and we're going to put our football team in a great position to win on Saturday," Kelly said.
A win over the Panthers gives UC the Big East title, a trip to the Sugar Bowl and an outside shot at playing for the national championship.
But Kelly's name has come up repeatedly before and since Charlie Weis was fired by Notre Dame.
Kelly did say Tuesday that he has not been contacted about the job.
The coach said he doesn't believe all the Notre Dame talk is a distraction for his players.
"When they go out on that practice field, they're not thinking about anything else but they'd better do it right, or I'm going to be all over them," Kelly said.
