Tebow narrowly leads McCoy, Gerhart in latest USA TODAY Heisman Watch
What a difference a week can make in the USA TODAY Heisman Watch. Mark Ingram of Alabama had a clear lead entering the weekend. But his sub-par performance against Auburn coupled with big games by Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow and Toby Gerhart have muddled the race with one week of action remaining.
Tebow is the new leader as the Florida quarterback led the Gators past Florida State and moved them one game away from the national championship game. The senior grabbed four-first place votes and 38 total points, giving him a one-point lead on McCoy. The Texas quarterback threw for four scores and ran for 175 yards against Texas A&M.
Right behind the two quarterbacks is Gerhart at 36 points. The Stanford running back ran for 205 yards and three touchdowns in front of a national television audience. The one thing working against him is that the Cardinal are finished for the regular season.
Ingram managed just 30 yards rushing against Auburn and fell from first place to fourth place with 21 points. He still has one more chance to change the mind of voters when Alabama faces Florida in Atlanta.
Boise State's Kellen Moore rounds out the top five with nine points.
