ND's expectations are so unrealistic. I agree, just let the kids play.

Nobody goes to ND to play football because they think they will be a part of a national powerhouse. That ended a LONG time ago. Kids there can't possibly remember an ND title.

Notre Dame's arrogance is hurting their own program.

By declining an invite, they are only hurting the program. Good opportunity for Dayne Crist to get some practice. 15 practices allowed plus a game.

Really doesn't suprise me that they have sucked after decisions like this.

I can't even figure out the incentive to play at Notre Dame other than it's a D1 school.

They need to get over themselves

They don't want to get their asses kicked in a second tier bowl by a second tier squad. There aren't many great players who would want to go to Notre Dame anymore (even if they could get in academically). It's not 1959 (or even 1979) anymore.

That's about the dumbest decision that I've ever seen from a football team. You never want to lose out in practice time for new players, whether the coaches are going to be there or not.. And they also lose out on the bowl money. Money they could use to help pay off Weis...Stupid

Bunch of drama queens. Just play the damn bowl.

ND also declined bowls in Holtz's last year.

So much misinformation in this thread. Dayne Crist is hurt -- probably won't be able to play until the spring. And it was the PLAYERS who voted not to go to the bowl game. All the "let the kids play" posts are ignorant.

Had Hawai'i beat Wisconsin or the Pac-10 got 2 teams in the BCS (both still possible), they weren't getting any invites anyway.

Just saving themselves the embarrassment of not getting a bowl invite "because they're not in a conference".

Was just going to post this.

The players held an "only players meeting" the day after the Stanford and voted to end the season.

Good riddance I say.

After the awesome bowl game last year in Hawaii, too bad not see them in that type of game again. At least it is one more spot for some other team.

actually it was not the players who ultimately decided....and if you ask the team leaders they wanted to play. The team meeting you two are talking about had the AD, one of the current coaches, and the team captains.

you ask the leaders of the team what they said at the meeting and they said ultimately they wanted to play, but were unsure about other players. In the end the AD made the decision.

And even if it were the players, it is still some part of ND playing a bitch card and saying they are too good for this. This only hurts the program, who wants to go to a school that refuses a bowl game.....and this year they could actually have won, unlike some of the masacres I have been to. Not an ND fan, but attend about one game of theirs a year, usually their bowl game or other high interest game. Luckily for me I went to the WSU/ND game in Texas.....since there is no go on the bowls.
