Former WWE wrestler Edward "Umaga" Fatu, 36, died at a Houston hospital Friday after suffering a heart attack at his home on Thursday night.

Umaga's life support was removed Friday morning after he suffered another heart attack, according to family members who came to the hospital to say their goodbyes to the wrestling star.
Umaga's wife rushed him to a local hospital when she found him not breathing and bleeding from his nose on Thursday night.
Umaga had just returned from the Hulkamania tour overseas. The native of American Samoa gained major publicity for his match in WrestleMania 23 opposite Bobby Lashley in 2007. The show was the top grossing wrestling event in pay per view TV.
He trained under the Wild Samoans tag team of Afa and Sika, his uncles, and debuted in the WWE as Jamal in 2002.
His contract with the WWE was terminated in June.

WWE announcer Jim Ross suggested sleep apnea could have played a part in Umaga being found unresponsive this morning, but that is unconfirmed. Friends within the wrestling industry feared he was dead earlier today. Umaga's family has yet to issue a statement on his condition.

Ross said on jrsbarbq.com: "He fell asleep and his wife apparently was unable to wake him. From all I read about sleep apnea, I have been diagnosed with it myself, it may be possible that Umaga had an undiagnosed case of sleep apnea which puts huge stress on one's heart because one stops breathing many times for several seconds every hour one sleeps."

-- TMZ briefly covered Umaga's grave condition with a note that he's "in really bad shape." Currently, "Umaga" is listed as a Trending Topic on Twitter reflecting fans searching for more information on Umaga.

19 year old girls keep you in better shape. Plus I would guess went to real Doc's to get his roids and these other guys were just buying them out of the lockerroom. The WWE deathlist grws on.

Yeah, HHH's 'roids intake is monitored, that I would buy.
Remember what Vince looked like 8 years ago?
He did a Letterman interview, and Dave said to Vince "whoa, looks like somebody got a set of weights for Christmas"

Vince replied, looking at Dave, "yeah, looks like someone did not"

Was he the guy that would throw the opponent into the corner and back his ass into the opponent's face and give him a "Stinky Face"?

No, Umaga's thing was the 'spike thumb'
You have him confused with the other lard ass who's name escapes me.

This match was for the ages.
Watch Cena's bloody face at the 7:00 mark or so.
Great match.

UMAGA looked like the most unhealtiest wrestler ever. Him and Rikishi went to CiCis Pizza every day it looked like! Im not surprised, I mean anybody that size will suffer greatly from health complications eventually in thier lifetime. Its sad though RIP.

I think, and this is just my thought Tom, that in the WWE steroids and other related substances are abused more than say, in MLB.

Cocaine, alcohol, food and pain killers. But it must be the steroids. If we aren't going to look at the picture rationally, objectively or logically, at least we let politicians and the media tell us what to think

According to steroid users, steroids don't kill you unless severely abused. It's most likely the pain killers.

Vince really treats these guys like circus animals

Take a look at the Chris Benoit death/suicide/murders.
Or the Eddie Guerrero death.
Look at the mess Hardy is in now.
Rob Van Damm got busted last year with a freaking pharmacy in his car.
The list is endless.

I agree with you but try going to a bodybuilding forum and telling them anything bad about steroids and they will eat you up saying how there has never been a documented death etc etc.

Even that movie Supersize Me was almost a commercial for steroid use.

Bill,
Benoit is the perfect example. All evidence is that he was abusing prescription meds along with steroids. More interesting, from wikipedia: "Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient." Is that sort of severe mental illness more likely to happen from steroids or from having your brain bounce around inside your skull from more than 20 years of professional wrestling?

Like the way the government tried to ram down my throat that ephedra is bad for me.
Why? Because Steve Belcher popped ephedra pills like M & M's in the Arizona desert while running wind sprints.

News flash, I was taking Stacker2 in moderation for several years.
Never once did I suffer from any side effects.

But if a high profile athlete od's on them, then they must be bad.

Good post Tom

Agree Bechler was the best example of media coverage I've seen

It was reported he was upset with himself for coming in to spring training around 250-pounds and was trying to drop the weight. He was fat, out of shape, dehydrated, wasn't eating, doing professional level conditioning drills in Florida

If that happened in the Army, someone would have been threatened with prison for letting such an obvious heat weather injury happen regardless of ephedra use
