Soccer I suppose but where I don't know - I have never heard of a Tico local bookie. There are a few (if they still exist, they may have been closed by the government) one or two walk up sportsbooks here in San Jose and at some of the better resort hotels that have casinos. I used to play craps and blackjack occasionally at The Holiday Inn Casino in downtown San Jose but haven't been in the place for over 10 years.

I see a lot Ticos buying some sort of state sponsored lottery tickets that are for sale all over the city by mostly older men who obviously can be trusted and actually sell these tickets as a full time job. My wife buys them but never wins.

Basically from my experience the average man on the street Tico are not gamblers that I know of.

I know there will be some action when the World Cup starts next June even though Costa Rica itself failed to qualify which is to bad because when they went to Germany in 2006 the whole country was World Cup happy. I remember watching games around 6AM which were afternoon games in Germany. Soccer or Futball is enormously popular here.

I am looking forward to World Cup 2010 from South Africa in June even though I rarely bet on soccer.

BTW.. Our Soccer Forum has several excellent cappers for anyone interested..

wil..
