Hard to argue with having the All Time Shit Out record

(and yes you can now Edit the first post and my friendly Reply above)

I voted YES, but it was a close contest with Robert Hatch for his sterling performance against the Nazi soccer team in VICTORY

Extremely subjuctive as quintet in front of you has more to say about outcome than you, the goalie. Very unlike pitcher in baseball who has a great influence on game. Many try to equate gaolie with pitcher and I think that is a fallacy.

Best goalie ever. I'll throw in Ken Dryden but if he's on Toronto and not Habs who knows

No.

The trap, and goalie equipment, that helped out a lot of goalies in the 1990's.

Brodeur is good, but how good compared to others we never know.

Was Brodeur in his prime better than someone like, lets say, Dominic Hasek?

Forget about the stats, if we watch the games, can one really say that Brodeur is better than Hasek?

And who thinks Hasek was the best goalie that ever played?

No one!

I voted yes cause you can't really argue against his numbers and consistency, but I want to say no now. @):ohno:

To me, Brodeur's incredible stats are equal parts talent and NJ's strong emphasis on defense. The team has used the same formula for all of Brodeur's career.

I think Hasek beats him on raw talent - his GAA/SV% numbers are slightly superior to Brodeur's. The guy was just insane to watch and he played for much more offensive-minded teams. I rank Brodeur and Roy ex-aequo at #2 for goalies I've seen during my lifetime.

I started a similar thread when Marty broke the record.
I said he was the greatest I have ever seen, I got a few responses similar to Polaris.
I don't agree, but I definitely respect those who cite the way the game is played today.

ken dryden

You can make a strong case for Dryden.
Off the chart goalie career stats.

Only played eight seasons (seven full)
Helped Montreal win 5 cups (6 if you include 1970-1971, where he was barely a factor, playing just six games)

very difficult to compare. If one is to go by stats only, one should keep the following in mind:
a) era he played in (scoring era? average goals per game?)
b) type of team he played on. poor team? v defensive minded team?
c) quality of dee in front of him
d) how did he play in the 'big' games

have any great goalie face 40-50 shots on goal, after time he wont appear 'great' by many, certainly if viewed by stats only

Yeah!

And bicycles were a lot better back when they had front and rear fenders...even moreso when they had a little basket attached to front handlebars and a rubber horn
