How safe is the water that flows out of your tap? The answer very much depends on where you live.

It's now easier than ever for consumers to find out what's in their tap water. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) today released the results of a three-year investigation of municipal water supplies across the U.S.

The research and advocacy group looked at water quality tests performed by water utilities since 2004 and created an extensive database that contains info on the contaminants found in 48,000 communities in 45 states.

EWG also rated 100 big city (population over 250,000) water utilities. Below are the top and bottom results.

I don't know about safeness but as far as taste is concerned,I was in Waco earlier this year and the water taste horrible.

The taste of the water in Vegas is really awful. I think they do it on purpose so people have to buy the expensive bottled water all over the place.

i been drinking a lot of tap water.....i went through a phase where i was drinking bottled water all the time, but that cuts into a man's gambling money.....pretty much i drink water all day long, then i start hitting the beerz....

arkansas wasn't on either list, so i'll take that as a :103631605

I think it is worse in SD/LA

I hate Ct, but the water is good.

Same thing in Oklahoma City, but what the hell do I know, I live in Arlington Tx.

fiji water = scam

just buy regular bottle water. That fancy fiji bottle fools people all the time...sheesh

i once thought i was taking some kind of major health leap by drinking bottled water.....tap water and ass tastes just as good, and i save roughly 20 bucks a week now

tap water in Boise is likely fine.

bottled water is OK, but it is a convience item, only costs like 15 cents a bottle + deposit.

I could live w/o it, no problem, whatsoever.

I can detect no quality difference between say Poland Spring, and my tap water.

I am sure tap water is fine in some places, but in most places it tastes horrible. Bottled water is the way to go.

I agree. Love my Brita water jug too, that's been the easiest way for me to drink purified.

Anyone thinking bottle and tap are the same you have to be kidding me.

Only bottled water I have read about being a rip off is Dasani, that's the one bottled by Coka-Cola.
