what does it mean to be a sharp?

some people write about sharps like they are this block of intelligent wealthy gamblers that move lines with their wagers.

when i read therx, its clear true sharps are very rare people.

who exactly are they?

On the RX 90 percent of the posters who proclaim they are sharps are really squares that feel the need to stroke their egos.
Don't get me wrong, there are a few sharps that post here regularly but bascily we are all squares that have access to information that real sharps use.

A sharp is someone who bets lines early and then the line moves with lesser value than when the "sharp" bettor bet it.

A sharp also doesn't bet bad or stale lines.

A sharp has a bankroll and uses good money management, this way he can endure a bad streak that would end a square recreational bettors bankroll.

Finally a sharp is someone who profits from sports betting.

I promise you there isn't a lot of sharps in forumsville.

I think you are on the right path, but I wouldn't agree with this. It's not WHEN you bet... its What you bet...

A sharp is defined by how many outs they have. Typically 8 or more.

They line shop and always get the best price available.
And take advantage of anything and everything soft even if it's a sport they know nothing about.
