Bill Belichick is the best coach. The 2007 Patriots squad that fell in the Super Bowl is the best single-season team. Colts-Patriots is the best team rivalry, Brady-Manning the best individual rivalry and Scott Pioli the best personnel man/scout. Randy Moss was the pay-off in the best trade, and Tom Brady was the name in the biggest draft steal, as awarded by the always plugged-in Peter King.
And yes, Super Bowl XLII was the upset of the decade, David Tyree's helmet-catch was the signature play and Spygate was the biggest controversy. Peter King also also got the all-decade team, with Moss, Mike Vrabel and Adam Vinatieri (plus short-time Patriot Sean Morey) part of the group.
Meanwhile, my pal Don Banks runs down the 10 signature moments of the decade, and Mo Lewis' hit on Drew Bledsoe (No. 1), the helmet catch (No. 2) and the tuck-rule call (No.7) are listed. He's also compiled the best trades, draft picks and free-agent signings, with the Moss and Wes Welker trades, the Mike Vrabel signing and Brady pick all in the mix.
Jim Trotter's got the Top 10 games with the 2007 AFC Championship Game with the Colts (No. 3), Super Bowl XLII (No. 4), the Raiders-Patriots playoff game (No. 5), and Super Bowl XXXVI (No. 10) all making the cut.
Been a tough week for the Patriots. But for all of you, this probably puts things in perspective.
