I understand 'The Office' has a nice following and gets pretty good Nielsens, but I don't see what the big deal is.
I tried to like the show, but it doesn't do it for me.

Any fans of the show, if so, what am I missing?

Funny you mention Scrubs, like Scrubs The Office does not use 'canned laughter'.

That I respect, I can't stand most sit-coms that use 'canned laughter'.
I don't need to be told when to laugh.

The characters are likeable. Michael Scott's inappropriate behavior is "cringeworthy," and has the appeal of watching a car accident, which keeps people tuned in. I think the show is funny.

About 2 weeks ago Mrs Boxer brought home every season on dvd. Neither of us ever watched it. After the first couple of shows I didn't think it was that good, but the more I watched it the more and more I started to like it. I am now obsessed with it. We are on Season 4 now and the show is really good. Im glad I gave it a shot because it gets funnier and funnier.

I think (like scrubs) that the office has run out of ideas for plot... The dynamics when jim/pam weren't a couple were much better. Scrubs has run into this problem as well, as the happy couples just aren't fun to watch. Also liked the british office more than the american, but its close.

Isn't The Office in year 6 or 7?
That's typically when all good shows 'hit the wall'.

My all time fave '24' hit the wall, even though last season wasn't that bad and this season looks even better.

Look at Seinfeld's season 9, that was a mere shell of say season 4.

I haven't gotten to the part where Jim and Pam get together yet, but I knew it was coming from others talking about it.

All of my all-time favorite shows that I can think of never went past six seasons...

Miami Vice had five seasons
Sopranos had six seasons
Wire had five seasons
Dexter just finished its fourth season
Lost is done after this upcoming sixth season
Deadwood had three seasons
Rome had two seasons
Californication just finished its third season

That's a pretty good list. Miami Vice was overrated IMO.

The Wire I've been meaning to watch on DVD but to this day I haven't seen a single episode.

Dexter has possibly it's best season yet this year!

billhill, everyone is right on. you must watch a couple episodes to get into it. I think its the cheesy camera, and also how much of the comedy plays off the other characters personalities.. a must watch...

The Wire was a damn great show. Wish it didn't end...

I loved Oz, but somehow never made it through

I am big on Miami Vice so I think its far from overrated but everyone has their own opinion. After you watch the Wire you will put it in your top 3 shows list of all time. I wouldn't rate this season as my favorite Dexter season, but it was a very good season.

One of my favorite shows (can't beat Always Sunny) but gotta agree they're def running out of storylines. Hope they can figure it out I'd hate to see it go.

i think u need to rent season 1, to start from the beginning.

THEN

as mentioned above watch at least 3 or 4 episodes before you decide.

For me its for sure without a doubt a top 5 all time TV show.

Speaking of which, the main guy RICKY GERVAIS who created the office british version was on 60 minutes last week.
