Halladay and agent in Philadelphia
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay and his agent have checked into a Philadelphia-area hotel, according to two Inquirer sources.

It is not known if a trade sending Halladay to the Phillies is imminent, but if Halladay and the Phils are negotiating--as is indicated by the pitcher's presence in Philadelphia--that would suggest that the Phils and Blue Jays are far enough along in talks for Halladay to discuss a potential contract extension with the Phils. Halladay has one year remaining on his contract before becoming a free agent.

The Phils have long been linked to Halladay, and were actively involved in trade talks last July, before the team acquired lefthander Cliff Lee from Cleveland.

UPDATE, 3:04-- The plot thickens: Foxsports.com has added that the Phils are in talks regading a potential three-team deal that would send lefthander Cliff Lee to an unnamed club. This makes sense for a number of reasons:
--Lee is owed $9 million next year, and the Phils need to clear payroll to sign Halladay.
--Lee will be a free agent after this season, and if he tests the open market the Phils would find it difficult to re-sign him, given their already robust payroll.
--Acquiring Lee may net the Phils some of the prospects requried to complete a deal, without having to give up players like pitcher J.A. Happ and Kyle Drabek, outfielders Domonic Brown, Michael Taylor and Anthony Gose. :103631605

I'm not surprised. Phillies want him and Roy is pushing hard to pitch in Philly. Not only that, the Jays send him to a NL team.

I don't think anyone in Philly, would want to see Cliff Lee go.
but,,this "brain-trust" ,seems to know what they are doing ?

So .. a little faith will have to go a long-way here.

We gotta trust that,,
Ruben and the brain-trust, will get us to 3 W.S. in a row.

FOXSPORTS.COM is reporting that the Blue Jays, Phillies, and Mariners have agreed in principle to a trade that would send Roy Halladay to the Phillies, Cliff Lee to the Mariners, and prospects to the Blue Jays.
The deal is very complicated, with lots of money being passed around and negotiation windows being negotiated for Halladay to complete an extension. Once they work out all the logistics, then it will go to be approved at the Commissioners Office.
It will be interesting to see who the Mariners surrender in return for Lee. The Mariners probably will have to surrender either prospect Dustin Ackley, Phillipe Aumont, or Carlos Triunfel in the deal.
The Phillies struggled to lock up pitcher Cliff Lee, and perhaps that is why they decided to move him. He will also be a free agent after the 2010 season.
Two news reports today that seriously impact the Angels and their playoff chances in 2010. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.

personally i think it's great, as of this season, it's a straight up swap of lee for halladay, granted the phillies aren't giving up any of their top prospects, which it doesn't seem like they are. if they sign roy long term i love it.

Anyone who didn't know Cliff Lee was not going to sign an extension in Philadelphia. Roy has been wanting to come here since last year and will sign an extension. On top of that Halladay is a better pitcher then Lee and he is a right handed pitcher, something the Phillies needed. The other great thing with this deal is now the Philadelphia organization still has the great prospects in the minors waiting to come up. The Phillies still have work to do, but knowing that Halladay will be here for the long-term is a beautiful thing. Not having to trade Drabek, Taylor or Brown is huge. Them guys are the future of this team. I appreciate what Lee did, but knowing that Lee was gone after this year and Halladay will sign a long-term deal, I am very excited.

I would love to see Drabek in the majors next year, but from what Amaro has said that won't be happening. So as of right now it looks like...

1) Halladay
2) Hamels
3) Blanton
4) Happ
5) Who knows.

Great pick up by Z and the Mariners, 1-2 punch with Felix and Lee. Pick up a bat and we have ourselves a team. Nice to have a real gm for a change.

Odd ???

Seems Odd:
Dec. 14 - 4:21 pm et

Cliff Lee's agent, Darek Braunecker, told the New York Times' Tyler Kepner that he has not heard from the Phillies about a trade.

A handful of reliable news sources are reporting that a three-team deal has been agreed upon that would send Cliff Lee to Seattle and Roy Halladay to Philadelphia. It's odd that an agent whose client is involved in the trade would have no knowledge of the negotiations.

Before making it official the Phillies have to do the whole physical thing with Halladay. I am sure they will be in touch with Mr. Braunecker after that process has been completed.

wow. thank god they dont have Lee in the rotation also. Not being biased here but i think alot of Phillies motivation here was to take Halladay away from the Mets. They knew we needed a pitcher badly and after Yankees and Boston dropped out it left the Mets in prime position to swoop in like the Santana deal. Lackey also signs with Boston. Have no idea where this leaves the Mets. :think2:

not quite sure about that. they got out of that stage when Phillips/Duquette were no longer GM. If anything for almost 3-4 years now they have not made a big signing what so ever. Which makes this even more dissapointing as a Met fan because this offseason it was believed we were going to be a major player in the market.

Update

UPDATE: The Mariners will send pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont and outfielder Michael Taylor to Toronto. Aumont, a 2007 first round pick, had a 3.29 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 106 2/3 total minor league innings. Taylor, 23, owns a .323 career average and a .368 OBP in 1,036 minor league plate appearances.

also: Catching prospect Travis D'Arnaud

Here's what we've learned so far: The Phillies will get Roy Halladay from the Blue Jays and will hand him a three-year, $60 million contract extension;

The Blue Jays, in turn, will get D'Arnaud and outfielder Michael Taylor from the Phillies, and 20-year-old right-handed pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont from the Mariners;

Seattle will wind up with Cliff Lee from the Phillies.

Halladay would agree to a three-year extension through 2013, with a vesting option that could lengthen the deal by another year or two, one source said. The extension is expected to guarantee Halladay in the neighborhood of $60 million, plus the $15.75 million he would make in 2010, the final year of his current contract.

This thing might not get sorted out until Tuesday or Wednesday.
