As much as I loved Lee last year and what he did in the playoffs for us...Halladay is the superior pitcher and a much more probable option for a solid long-term deal. Not to mention, Halladay had one of his best K:BB ratio, ERA, and K's in a season when the Yankees offense was out of this world and the Red Sox are still the Red Sox. Halladay is going to eat up the NL.

i agree....halladay is the better option....he will definetly eat up the nl....this guy is a workhorse and now he gets to face lineups where the pitcher is hitting...as good as lincecum and santana are i think i know who the nl cy young might be next year....

I really think not having all of the pressure as he did going into last season will really allow Hamels to take the next step this coming year. Over the next years he will get to learn under one of the top non-overpowering SP in the game should only help. I still believe Hamels has the stuff to be a 15-18 game winner with 190-200 Ks, and a low 3 ERA. This year he doesn't have the responsibility of carrying an entire rotation and should do great as a #2 who has the stuff of a #1.

Great time to be a Phillies fan!

Halladay will win the cy if he can get a little better run support. the jays blew a lot of games for him over the years. linsecum ,carpenter ,webb and halladay wow what a cy watch there will be if they stay healthy but I think Roy would take it. I can see him making a lot of hitters looking very silly I mean he makes guys who have faced him 20 times look bad imagine guys who haven't seen his stuff, I can see at least 25 wins if he stays healthy and the phils give him the run support they are capable of.

If I were the Phillies, I wouldn't involve the Mariners in this one. They're getting Cliff Lee for a bargain (Aumont, #3 prospect in their organization and Gill, a no-name outfield prospect).

Just trade Drabek, Taylor, and d'Arnaud for Doc Halladay and have the nastiest rotation known to man.

- Doc Halladay
- Cliff Lee
- Cole Hamels
- Joe Blanton
- J.A. Happ

Imagine playing a 3-game series against the Phils and facing Halladay-Lee-Hamels. The Nats might go 0-fer against them this year with this rotation!

Lee doesnt want to stay there he told them even if they kept him that he is walking after this season so philly did not have much choice they got a guy who wants to be there for less money. Halladay was all for it because he lives 10 minutes from phils spring training facility.

I too heard Lee turned down a proposed extension because his agent has him believing he can get CC money. Buster Olney had a decent avenue for the Phillies...keeping Lee on the cheap and then going into the 2010 winter with Lee, Halladay, & Beckett out there as the top 3 FA pitchers. While that does make sense, and hope you can outbid others come next year, it would also be foolish to not guarantee yourself such a pitcher for the next four seasons.

I for one cannot wait until the Phillies visit here in June, as I hope Doc is scheduled to start one of those games. I, along with a probably sold out crowd, will pay to give him the long long standing ovation he deserves during the introductions.

Your a Mets fan too damn I feel sorry for you.

I'm sure when they got Santana you expected back to back WS trips not the other way around for the Phillies.

Drabek and Taylor are good, but prospects are unpredictable and when you can get the best pitcher in baseball for the next 4 years you do it. Aumont seems to be a future closer which they need if Lidge continues to fall apart and Gilles is their future leadoff hitter. Gavin Floyd got touted higher than Drabek and he was a disaster with the Phillies. They also have Dominic Brown who is better than Taylor as an OF prospect.
