I know you would probably need a decent sample size to prove this or even see if it would be worthwhile but I am curious to some opinions.

Would it be more profitable to pass on early bets during a long sports season to another book (MLB,NHL,NBA,CBB)? and take action later on in the season as the lines become much more sharp and it is harder to beat the book?

Yes you will lose out early in the season on losses but for the most part on the latter months of the season isn't it much harder to beat lines?

BTW i know as a book you would want all action all the time but if you could do this wouldn't it be more profitable in the long run?

I still trying to figure out what you are trying to say Here ??

In one part.......would it be More profitable to Pass on Early Betting....
and wait until later in the season....So the Lines are Sharper ?

I think it depends on the Sport.....

In Basketball.......

The Lines are Soft, Early in a Season......So it would be better to Wager Then.

As the season goes on, the Lines are Sharper....Harder !
Sometimes to beat or get the Best lines.

It's hard to say.....In Baseball, you sometimes need for a starting pitcher to get his Innings in. They only go about 5 innings at the start of the season. So you need to base your bet at, who are the Other Pitchers that are coming in.

And of Course in Football....IMO the Lines are Softer, and is more Profitable.

So it could go either way........

The question was if You were a Book ?? :ohno:

A Book Takes Action....All the Time !

You can't or Shouldn't Open up Shop in the Middle of a Season.

Yeah pretty much....say the guy takes calls for the main book. He keeps some action early in the season and calls the rest off to the book. Later on when the lines become tougher to beat he keeps all the action.

You can Lay off as much as you want at any given time.

So you are taking too much action on one game ( one side ) You can lay off some or All of that action.

You need a safe-Guard ! All Books do it, even the Big ones :toast:

I understand what you are saying betall

I think what i was trying to ask is more often then not do books tend to clean up later on in a season when the lines become tougher to beat.

Like if a book says, "it's that time of the season where these lines are tough to beat, time to clean up"

Well IMO.... ( and I think Most will agree ) Football Season is the time for the Books to Clean up.
It doesn't always happen that way.....( see this past weeks Results )

But Just about Everything the "Gambler" won during Baseball Season, etc.... They give it Back + during Football season.

Football usually is a good season for books, even in circumstances like this past week you had players win a nice amount over the weekend.

MNF comes around and they bet that little extra they had on an Arizona team that looked like an easy win to your average bettor and that week doesnt look as good for the bettor anymore.
