Clear all of your cookies. Download Malwarebytes and run it. Also use the defrag program in windows. That will speed it up a lot. Probably have a ton of startup programs running that don't need to.

RUN>MS CONFIG>STARTUP

Uncheck probably every box

Nearly all programs when installed set themselves up to "start up" each time you boot, even if you're not using them.

As a result, they're running "under the radar", albeit at individually low demand since you're not using them (adobe reader, windowsmediaplayer, realplayer, ms office etc)

In combination, they pull a huge amount of resources

You can in fact run the Restore Disk and it offers at least two and maybe three options.

One will retain all programs downloaded and installed since you first fired up your puter. But if you have not followed the steps in my last post, that will result in a net "gain" of Not Much in terms of improving performance.

Not for nuttin', but most Office Depots, Staples etc are doing routine "checks" for like $29 wherein they do everything that's needed.

This, as compared to taking it to some local puter shop and the guy jacks you up for $50 or more

And not unlikely that if you schedule in advance, the person doing the check and reset of needed functions will allow you to be a spectator.

Download Malwarebytes and run it. Also use the defrag program in windows.

If you haven't done these two things your just spinning your wheels at this point,I would also recommend downloading Advance System Care which is also free and is great for fixing lots of problems. Go to download.com to get these.

back up what you want to an external HD or CD and then put the restore disc in and follow the instructions.

undo everything in the msconfig-start

do a disc defrag
do a disc cleanup
download 'cleanup!' and run it
download and use a registry cleaner

mine ran 100 times faster after doing the above.

STEAK, the only reason you Replied to this Thread is because the Topic contained the words, "How Hard?"

explorer 8 is not the proplem. In fact explorer 8 is needed to properly view web pages.

Make sure you have 15 % free space in your hard drive.

ANy thing more then that and your compi can not properly defrag.

Is your music illegal download stuff?

I heard the music industry swamped the illegal down load sites with malware infected music.

Don't bother with checking for spyware, viruses, etc for the purpose of speeding up the computer unless it's for the purpose of trying to prevent similar problems in the future. Do the reinstall of the operating system. Just put anything you want on a flash drive or other device and run the reinstall cd, it's very easy.
