ZJP is right.

I'll add: if you are looking to do it for free. Torrents pretty much the only way these days.

I use Amazon because I don't download a lot of music and it's hassle free. I don't care that I pay 80 cents or 99 cents here and there.

Newsgroups are safer than anything out there but they are a bit trickier to use than torrents. Take a bit of time to learn but the downloads are a zillion times faster.

yeah newsgroups and torrents are the fastest, and also some rare stuff is available on those, if you dig deep enough.

I like to buy cd's still. Half of the people on this forum probably don't even own a cd player (Im not talking portable because that would be creepy. Just a regular CD player to pop cd's in and listen) anymore.

i dont know how to surpass the rapidshare download limits..cos you can download only a couple of MB's every hour or something like that

It has to be VERY FAR from a couple MB /hour because I manage to download documents/books that average 50 megs

I think the deal is you get only one simultaneous download per IP and you have to be patient if you click and it says 'wait certain amount of minutes' until a slot opens for free users

I have a friend that has two IPs associated to his cablemodem and downloads a LOT

Imposible to know, I am yet to get my computer infected with anything I have downloaded but I never download 'mainstream' kind of things, like microsoft office for example

I also have a separate computer where I do this sort of risky experiments

At minimum make sure you manually create a restore point (I am asuming you are using xp)

Should anything go wrong, you can always go back

sure, not couple mbs/hour, but say 100 mb/hour or something like that..its frustrating you have to wait so long to download the next part of a movie or whatever big size file split in parts. i heard it can be surpassed by changing ur IP, but i just use torrents instead.

Illegal....but what I have done is to not share music. I configure the program to not share files...and I just download what I am looking for then I quit the program....JMO
