?

Doorbell rang. Two white guys standing outside. Plain clothes. I opened up and asked them who they were. Said they were with the city of NY, showed me a badge. Told me their were problems with Identity Theft in the area. Asked me for the names of people that live in my house, as they're taking a list of the neighborhood to help prevent ID Theft.

Seemed strange to me. I told 'em I was busy and to return later.

Ha, they probably are the identity thieves themselves. Fakes badges perhaps. Did you call the police department to check or get their badge numbers? I wouldn't give them any info.

Didn't give them any info, but am considering contacting my local station.

With the city of NY, and presented badges. Seemed like plain clothes police officers, which there are many of in my neck of the woods.

Wouldn't tell them to go fvck themselves however.

I don't believe in a situation like that, they would send plain clothes cops. I think they would be uniform officers in that type of situation.

Those were my thoughts exactly. Thinking over it now, I'm glad I sent them away.

You are in Queens, right?

I would doubt that NYC would send plain clothes. Dangerous for them and just seems to phony for people to believe imo.

They were lucky you answered the door.

In Texas, in the past 18 months, we have had a rash of home invasions after people answer the door and are bum rushed. My wife and I don't answer the door anymore unless we are expecting someone and I generally know when I am going to receive a FEDEX or UPS.

Yes, I am in Queens.

I rent, live in a house with other tennants upstairs. So when people ring the bell, I generally answer thinking they may have gotten the bells mixed up.
