Ok, I have a few gift cards I scored from a contest at work. I have over 1k in gift cards for the 'ol Shack.

Figured I get a nice 1080 p TV. Go to web site and start to browse. What in the hell are they doing? They have 95% 780p Tv's and a handful of 1080p. They are selling crap.

I remember avoiding radio shack as a kid b/c they had weird brands and everything seemed just a little too generic. Here it is 25 yrs later and they still fall into that category.

I'm amazed that Radio Shack exists too. They have a few tvs but who actually goes there to buy a tv?

radio shack isnt making the money on tvs or computers... they are ovrpriced and for the most part lower - end or last years models...

they make majority of the business selling cables/connectors/wires/batteries/accessories and Toys/gadgets. - i asked my friend and he told me this so please dont bash.. he is employed there and its purely his own observation over several years.

Who goes there to buy anything? I feel like Radio Shack is a front.

I'm with ya. What is the bigger company that owns Radio Shack?

I go there every once in a while to buy small things but can't imagine they get enough customers.

Ya. So true. I wanted an adapter that changed mini 2.5 into normal 3.5 headphone jack on my cell phone. I paid 11 bucks for it. It probably would have cost about 3 bucks if I mail ordered it.

They have stuff you need sometimes that you just won't find anywhere else.

Can't see myself buying a television or a laptop from there though. That's what bestbuy is for.

Radio Shack is Old School.......It was Bad then, and it's Bad Now.

Never liked the place, not even sure if I ever bought anything there in my Life Time.

Unless it was a CB Antena ( which would have been back in the 70's ) @)

Actually they make the majority of their money now on mobile phones and service plans. But ya, accessories have ridiculous mark-up and are also a big part of their business. Managed one of these shitholes for a few months.

Lance Armstrong's new team is sponsored by Radio Shack....When he wins the TDF this year maybe it will boost their sales.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

i'll probably get a tomtom gps 340s (their newest), a camera (undecided), and maybe a laptop. sell the rest on ebay (as per this thread suggestion)

it's truly amazing though... how this store gives me the same weird vibe that it did 25 years ago. The post about the CB antenna was right on.

I think the last legit purchase I made there was for a co-axial connector b/c I didn't feel like driving to FRYs.

They have always had weird shit like oversize remote toys that kids would have to settle for.

The 780p thing really annoys me though. It's like a store that is trying to fake people out and make money on technology that is 2nd rate. If one didn't know anything about technology, one might walk in and think they were getting a TV on the cutting edge of technology. To have almost their entire stock of TV's be 780p in late 2009 is absolutely ridiculous.

720p dude (or, actually, quite likely 768p).

It's not the resolution I'd worry about /w RS but the quality of the brands & models they carry.
