I'm Looking at some of these Sales on Computers heading into Christmas, and I Don't see any good Deals.

Maybe I should wait until after the Holiday's ???

Yeah. Right now is probably the WORST time of the year to shop. No reason to give a good deal to desperate late minute shoppers. Probably be good again at the end of January when they have had a chance to restock, etc.

Generally Speaking ... you will always waste far more money if if you try to time your purchases than if you simply buy less

Buy your winter clothes during dangerous heat waves and buy your air conditioners during dangerous winter storms.

Will leave you more money to foolishly buy points as some posters like to do.

Best combination I think is to get those wool socks in August and sell those points.

Best deals for name brand computers are usually towards the end of quarters, and obviously end of a down fiscal year is usually the best... You'll notice places like slickdeals/fatwallet have fewer computer deals than normal right now and I think that's partially why. The other part is voiced above, demand is relatively high so there's no reason to give out great deals on low-margin items.

i know my mom goes out every year, and buys her wrapping paper, bows, decorations, candles etc rigth after xmas, cuz everything is 75-80% off, cuz they dont want to have to store it til next year.....she gets cards, and stuff as well....and just puts it in a box in the attic til next year, and it all looks new to her...LOL

she usually picks up a few gifts as well, cuz stuff is discounted, and keeps them around for surprise birthdays, and weddings, showers, stuff like that...

Indirectly in the business, the answer is no. There won't be any good sales for the next three months either, outside of Super Bowl. Why? Companies are starting a new year, and hope sales will be good without discounting.

That's why giftcards are the best gift. Because everything is much less than it was right before xmas. More bang for your buck.

I believe this, but I think its off by a month - many retailers (dell, for instance) end their fiscal year on january 31st... But this end of the fiscal year, combined with the superbowl for TVs (pointed out above), is the best time to buy. Dell and HP are notorious for great deals around this time.

This is false. You get your best seasonal deals during that particular season. If you need a fan or an a/c you buy that when May rolls around because the sellers stock is at its highest and he got his best volume price to cover the season. If you try to buy an a/c during a blizzard you run the risk of the model not being a stock item and they have to individually order it for you. I have tried to buy a fan in September and no one had any stock left.

Your best time to buy something is to buy it when you don't need it. That way you take the time to wait for the price to bottom out on the item you want. I hate it when I buy something and then two weeks later its even cheaper. Most stores will price match within 30 days but if you are like me and do a lot of online purchases you don't get refunded the difference.

This is what I'm talking about. Because all my PC's are Dell.
Been looking each day to see if maybe the Price would drop.

I should have bought on Black Friday, but didn't know at the time that The Wife would need a New Computer.

I will Note* that this is Not a Christmas Present, so I Don't have to get it Now.
But would like to get it for her within a Month.

I think the best time to buy a TV is in March and April. That is the time when most retailers are overstocked with the previous years model and need to sell off the old stock to get the new models.

The myth about Black Friday, After Christmas, Superbowl week being the prime time to buy is incorrect. It is the best time to sell. Go online to US Appliance and Amazon in March and you will see them selling TV's for dirt cheap direct and not through some private seller. Amazon will sell that shit on consignment to help retailers move their stock.

As for computers if you are getting a laptop I would switch to Toshiba if you are looking for year around deals. Getting a Dell kind of limits you from finding competitor price wars. Dell isn't going to allow one of its distributors to bottom out one of their machines for one week because it would affect their direct and overall sales for the remainder of the quarter. They may do a doorbuster or one day only sale either online or in store but you won't be one of the lucky few that grabs it.
