So, when was the last time a store asked to see your ID when using a credit card??

It just dawned on me while out shopping this morning that merchants never ask for IDs any longer. It seems that years ago, it was the norm to ask for an ID when making purchases by a credit card. Doesn't seem to be the case any longer, and quite honestly it seems as though something as simple as asking for an ID would eliminate a HUGE amount of credit card fraud.

My wife doesn't sign her credit cards. Instead, she writes "check ID" in the signature box...and even then, it is 50/50 at best that a sales clerk will ask to see her ID.

I have never in my life been asked to show ID when purchasing a product.

I must look quilty as hell. I pay everything in cash and was asked for my id when paying for 3500.00 worth of fencing for my fence guy. I gave the Home Depot the money and they asked for my id. I had to go get it in the car.

I used my cc at a gas station and they asked me for my zip code. That caught me off guard. I didn't know it off hand and had to look at my license. So in a round about way I had to pull out my ID.

I have "See ID" on the back of all my credit cards and I'd say it is checked less than 50% of the time....

I've used my girlfriends ID to buy beer before (she was aware of it) and no one ever asks.

Today at lunch actually at a Hallmark. No scanner up front so they swipe them over the register and she asked for it. Sign the back of your card so they will ask everytime....makes me always feel somewhat better I guess

Home Depot checks

Never happened to me here in Florida and I make numerous purchases there every month with a CC - ranging from $20 to $300

They do ask for a phone number when I purchase power tools, supposedly to serve as backup in case I want to Return/Exchange and don't have receipt

Most places the cashier never even has to touch your credit card.

+1. haven't saw a cashier handle a credit card in a few years. almost every store around here you swipe your card yourself. or someone else's for that matter.

at our restaurant, we dont ask either unless they do write "check id" on back...

and i have gotten better at looking for that, and if it says that, i always ask for it, until i know the person...we have a lot of regulars, so once i've seen them a couple times, i wont ask any longer of course
