Starting right tackle Garrett Pendergast suffered a broken ankle in practice. The top candidates to replace him are freshmen Michael Ames (the season-opening starter at right tackle) and Brenel Myers (the backup right guard).
Myers was unavailable for many games this year because of two hand injuries. He played in the season finale against New Mexico State. He was making a push for playing time before he got hurt and has built on that momentum in recent weeks, Huff said.
The Broncos have considered Myers a potential tackle for a while, Huff said.
“It’s obviously not an ideal situation,” he said. “It’s never ideal losing a guy, then it’s never ideal losing a guy for the last game of the season, and then it’s never ideal losing the guy who’s got to play against one of the best D-ends in the country. But we’ve got some guys who have been training for it. … We’re not going to feel sorry about it. We’re going to compete. It’s football. This stuff happens.”
