So far in two games, we have seen paid professionals officially lay down and give up on the game. I have not seen this type of behavior in hockey. The NBA is a sham and a disgrace to the game of basketball.

NBA is the worst mainstream sport ever. The refs/league are corrupt and it's more WWE than anything.

I have never watched a complete NHL game and don't plan on it.

I get my ass kicked in the NHL betting-wise because there is so much damn parity. But, I can see that the hustle and energy is brought every night from both teams contrary to the NBA league. These players should be taking it as a privilege to show off their skills for the whole world today, but they are laughing in our faces for buying into their product.

Hockey is boring! All they do is beat the shit out of each other for no reason
and your lucky if they score more goals then you can count on one hand.
NCAA basketball is the best sport.

i like ncaa more then nba, but i still like nba.

nhl to me is irrelevant like ive stated numerous times. plenty of stats that would back me up, but not going to waste my time.

and why do people always compare the two leagues together: nhl and nba.

realistically, the more comparable leagues would be nhl and mls, and nba compared to mlb.

This is funny on so many levels. The only truth in this post is in blue.

I love the NBA. NHL I have a hard time following the puck and telling the players apart. Also I hate it when I miss a score and they don't replay it much. I just don't like the way NHL games are produced for TV. I'm sure they are fun to go to though.

It's a matter of taste of course, but I love the NHL and don't really care about the NBA. It's not that its a bad sport to watch or anything, I just don't feel that passionately about it.

that still doesnt answer the question gatecity.

why do people try to compare the 2 leagues, nhl and nba together.

one league is watched all over the world, the other is a cult league. one has global superstars, the other has nobodies. one has major tv deals with espn, tnt, abc, the other is on something called versus.

the similar leagues for comparison would be nba and mlb based on reputation, worldwide following, and big names. none of these leagues come close to the nfl.

nhl would be the cult sport like mls, with similar ratings and fan following. more people know who landon donovan is then sidney crosby. that should tell you enough.

Hockey is obviously more popular outside of the US. Notice how soccer isn't broadcast on ESPN or ABC but it's extremely popular? You need to think more before you post. 1.3: NBA, Hawks (FS South, 15 games)
0.2: NHL, Thrashers (SportSouth)

Boston

2.2: NHL, Bruins (NESN)

Chicago
2.6: NBA, Bulls (CSN Chicago, 32 games)
1.9: NBA, Bulls (CSN Chicago+, 1 game)
1.1: NHL, Blackhawks (CSN Chicago)

Dallas
1.2: NBA, Mavericks (FS Dallas)
0.5: NHL, Stars (FS Southwest)

Denver
2.2: NBA, Nuggets (Altitude, 32 games)
1.7: NHL, Avalanche (Altitude)
1.4: NBA, Nuggets (Altitude2, 4 games)

Detroit
3.9: NBA, Pistons (FS Detroit, 29 games)
3.7: NHL, Red Wings (FS Detroit)
1.2: NBA, Pistons (FS Detroit+, 4 games)

Miami
2.2: NBA, Heat (Sun Sports)
0.2: NHL, Panthers (FS Florida)

Los Angeles

0.6: NBA, Clippers (FS West, 6 games)
0.5: NBA, Clippers (FS Prime, 15 games)
0.4: NHL, Kings (FS West)
0.3: NHL, Ducks (FS Prime Ticket)

Minneapolis
2.2: NHL, Wild (FS North)
1.1: NBA, Timberwolves (FS North)

New York
1.2: NBA, Knicks (MSG)
1.0: NHL, Rangers (MSG)
0.6
: NBA, Nets (YES)
0.4: NHL, Devils (MSG+)
0.2: NHL, Islanders (MSG+)

Philadelphia

SJ/SF/Oakland
1.5: NBA, Warriors (CSN Bay Area, 33 games)

Philly, Washington, and Minnesota chose hockey over their NBA teams. Detroit, San Francisco, Denver and New York are about even. The Bruins draw great in Boston. Keep in mind those numbers are only for US audiences in those towns.

Jake,

How is hockey more popular outside of the US? Basketball is huge in Europe and Asia.

Not speaking comparatively between the two sports. Just saying that most of the US doesn't care much for hockey. Not like Canada and Europe.
