The NFL HOF, only allows 4-7 players to be selected each year. Why don't they have the voters, take a year and get the guys that should be in already and put them IN.

So, is Andre Reed going to improve his stats this off-season, word out of Buffalo is that he has really been working on trying to make one more catch, but it doesn't appear that it will happen this year. How about Lester Hayes, any chance he gets another interception this year.

Players should have a 5-year window, if you aren't in the 5 years, than you don't come back on the ballot.

Here is the list for this year.
Also, can someone explain how Richard Dent is not in the HOF, but Dan Hampton is?

The complete list of 25 modern-era semifinalists is as follows:

Safe to say that Rice and probably Emmitt will be in leaving at most 5 more spots.

Ray Guy is probably most deserving of the older players, the guy was awesome.

Will a punter ever make it? Isn't there just one place kicker in the HOF?

Ray Guy was so much better than anyone else he should be in. When you pick a punter in the first round, and at the end of the year, they are saying what a great pick it was, that pretty much sums it up. Jeff Feagles is the best directional punter ever , but i doubt he'll make it. Jan Stenerud had a great name and a great number, that got him in, not cause he was so much better than anyone else.

NFL HOF Class of 2010...

FWIW - my prediction for the class of 2010....

No Brainers..

Jerry Rice, WR – 1985-2000 San Francisco 49ers, 2001-04 Oakland Raiders, 2004 Seattle Seahawk.

Emmitt Smith, RB – 1990-2002 Dallas Cowboys, 2003-04 Arizona Cardinals.

Have a good shot:

Tim Brown, WR/KR – 1988-2003 Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, 2004 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Shannon Sharpe, TE – 1990-99, 2002-03 Denver Broncos, 2000-01 Baltimore Ravens.

Aeneas Williams, CB/S – 1991-2000 Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals, 2001-04 St. Louis Rams.

John Randle, DT – 1990-2000 Minnesota Vikings, 2001-03 Seattle Seahawks

Longer shots:

Russ Grimm, G – 1981-1991 Washington Redskins.

Ray Guy, P – 1973-1986 Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders.

Probably as a contributor.

Paul Tagliabue, Commissioner – 1989-2006 National Football League.

Man, I've got to say that Football is by far the hardest sport to judge Hall of Fame worthiness.

-so many postions

-so little stats for most postitions , most stats are irrelevent often

- he fact that all these positions have different life spans. many postions have an average career lenght of 5 years.

Example : take Tim Brown and Aeneas Willaims. Many would think Brown cause his numbers looks good since its an offensive position. And he was more recognizable because of his position.

In reality Brown was never a top three player at his postion, although always top ten at a position that isn't of top priority for most teams

Williams on the other hand was almost always top three cornerback, a position of much more importance for NFL teams.

biggest reason baseball hof retains its significance is its exclusivity. nfl is the prime example of the hof being insignificant, seemingly random selection process and too many inductees.

Baseball Hall-of-Fame has given up that significance over the past 10 years. Perez, Rice, Sutter and Gossage were easily not the best players at their position still waiting. And they were all chosen by the writers who previously had both consistent and high standards
