I got a feeling the truth lies somewhere in the middle. My guess is this is a classic "old school" coach versus a pampered athlete who just happens to have a Daddy who works for ESPN covering college football.
I bet that Leach had James checked out by the team doctor who told him that James was good to go. Daddy & Mommy James didn't think so and had a "outside the University" quack Dr. tell the team he had a concussion. Leach got pissed and Leach is now history.
Leach's first mistake was that he should have been a little more subtle about his feelings. If he thought James was ok to go, but was now not allowed to practice him, he should have had him on the practice field walking around wearing a yellow jersey. I have seen this done before and this gets his message across to the team quite well. This also covers his butt as he can say that the "injured" player needs to wear something to differentiate him from the contact players.
Leach's second mistake was that his contract was going to cost the University $800,000 in less than two days and the University needed some excuse to rid themselves of this added expense. LOL. Leach will still get his bonus...good "bottom feeding" lawyers are only a phone call away.
I really believe James could play. I believe James's parents are pains in the arse. I believe Leach could have gotten his point across better than he did.
