Football legend Merlin Olsen is suing NBC Studios, NBC Universal, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, Sherwin Williams, Lennox Industries and other companies, claiming he developed a rare form of cancer as a result of being negligently exposed to asbestos.

Olsen -- who gained fame as a member of the Los Angeles Rams and went on to be a sportscaster, actor and spokesperson for FTD Florists -- was diagnosed with the rare asbestos cancer a few months ago.

filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Olsen worked after school doing manual labor when he was 10 or 11 and was exposed to asbestos.

Olsen claims he was exposed to asbestos later in life when he was doing drywall. Olsen also worked at NBC and 20th Century FOX and is alleging those companies negligently exposed him to asbestos.

Olsen, who is undergoing chemotherapy, claims in the suit that all of the defendants, "were engaged in the business of manufacturing, fabricating, designing, assembling, distributing, leasing, buying, selling, inspecting, servicing, installing, repairing, marketing, warranting and advertising a certain substance the generic name of which is asbestos."

Olsen says in the lawsuit that mesothelioma "is a vicious, painful, and invariably fatal malignancy" and there is no known cure.

Olsen and his wife Susan are suing for unspecified damages.

Dick Enberg & Merlin Olsen best NFL combo ever.

(At least my favorite

)

Hopefully he gets any and all help he needs to fight this.

I have a friend who's dad worked at the mines here in Florida that was exposed to Asbestos & sued. He won/received a big chunk of money but not worth it of course if this stuff takes a number of years off of your life...

Klecko and Mecklenberg and similar players like Lyle Alzado etc. were good solid pro defensive linemen but not Hall of Famers like the others mentioned.

The Stork (Ted Hendricks) however was elected to The Hall as a linebacker but often lined-up as a rare stand-up defensive end in certain defenses. Hendricks was truly an amazing player who is a member of the NFL 75th Anniversary team and the 1970s all Decade team plus was elected to the HOF in his second year of eligibility.

Hendricks played in 215 straight regular-season games. He also participated in eight Pro Bowl games, seven AFC championships and four Super Bowls (V with the Colts, XI, XV and XVIII with the Raiders).

Hendricks was named All-Pro as a Colt in 1971,as a Packer in 1974 and twice as a Raider in 1980 and 1982. He also earned second-team All-Pro honors five other times (1972, '73, '76, '77, '78). He also earned All-conference honors in 1971, '72, '74, '76, '80, '81 and '82, while being named 2nd-team All-AFC in 1973, '78 and '83.

The Mad Stork still holds records for various defensive categories, he is credited with an unofficial record of 25 blocked kicks including punts, field goals and PATs. He nabbed 26 INTs, 4 safties and 95 deflected passes during his great career.

In 1999, he was ranked number 64 on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Football Players.

I wonder if Michael Landon and Victor French had the same thing. They were on Highway to Heaven.

Klecko is HOF talent. Run stopper and sacker from tackle position unparalled for 5-6 years. Flamboyant Gastineua got all the pub for the "Sack Exchange" Any analyst worth his salt says the same. HOF is garbage now. Mecklenburg better than good as he lined up everywhere and took advantage of his mismatch be it speed or strength...great use of his talent by DC. Not HOF but damn close
