According to a source, the initial prognosis on Patriots WR Wes Welker is that he tore his left ACL and MCL this afternoon.

That is the injury that Tom Brady suffered during last year's season opener.

While timetables vary on these types of injuries, it's typically a 6-12 month rehab process. So after further tests tomorrow, Welker will go on injured reserve and undergo reconstructive surgery as soon as the swelling in the knee goes down.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report the news.

Remember where you heard it - do not sell back-up to Wes Welker - Julian Edelman short. He is a rookie but by now with a full season under his belt he is not playing like one. He came in today to relieve Welker and ended up with 10 grabs for 103 yards. Several of the catches were for important first downs ala Wes Welker...When Welker was hurt earlier in the season Edelman played excellently..

Edelman in very limited action finished the season with 37 catches for 359 yards and 1 TD 19 of his 37 catches resulted in first downs.. Don't bury the Pats just yet..

Tough deal. A longshot, but hopefully it isn't as bad as the initial tests show. Best wishes to Welker!

Caldwell was a stone cold hypocrite because he played Manning today. How can you pull him last week using the excuse that you want to make sure he stays healthy and don't care about a perfect season. Then stick him in a blizzard on the road a week later for 18 snaps - it only takes one play to blow out a knee..

The Saints held Brees out today which is what the Colts should have done with Manning if all the crap they spewed last week was true.

Yes, but can you really have your QB go 2 full weeks without taking a live snap, and then expect him to be game ready in the Divisional Rd.?

I thought he played Peyton a little too long. But I don't disagree with a series or two, to "keep a rythym" as they say.

Julian Edelman new slot receiver for New England..

Edelman.jpg

Edelman is # 11..

HOUSTON -- Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman didn't know the severity of Wes Welker's injury after the game but he said he would be ready if needed.

"I don't know what happened to him," said Edelman, who had a career-high 10 catches for 103 yards.. "I don't know what it is but, yeah, I'm going to have to do a lot of studying and just prepare like I did all year. All I can do is work hard and taking the coaching that we've had and go with it."

With Welker facing a season-ending injury, Edelman is likely to be in line to step in. Edelman was targeted 15 times today, picking up the most yards since his season debut against the Jets on Sept. 20. In that game, Edelman had 8 catches for 98 yards. Edelman got the start because Welker was inactive due to an injury.

Caldwell is a gutless piece of shit who clearly did not have the pulse of his team. They lay down on purpose during their game last week yet trot out their starters on the road in a fucking blizzard type game, mainly to keep Peyton's streak going.
