Bay, personality-wise, is very different from most previous Mets signings. He is durable and overall a class act that is always prepared and has never hit less than 20 HR in a season where he was a starter. I think you are dead wrong...he'll be a 30/100 guy. Whether that is worth 65M is worth a debate

What are the odds of this post getting bumped up in six years after his name appears in a headline for any reason?

Assuming he doesn't get hurt, I'd bet on the over 20. But, under 30. Call it 25. However, I don't think he was worth the money he's getting.

Something tells me that a couple years into this contract, the Mets will be trying to get out from under this contract.

NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST
1. Philadelphia Phillies --
They lost Pedro Feliz and Brett Myers to the Astros this offseason. Yet they gained Roy Halladay. I think the Phillies came out for the better.
2. Atlanta Braves -- This is Bobby Cox's last season as manager, so watch the team try to go out on top for him. The pitching staff is underrated. And outfielder Jason Heyward is already being discussed as Rookie of the Year.
3. Florida Marlins -- Hanley Ramirez is still pounding pitchers. And the rest of the no-name team will sneak up on everyone and be in the playoff hunt until late, just like normal.
4. New York Mets -- As hard as this is to believe, but money alone can't buy a pennant. David Wright is good. Jose Reyes is back on the DL. Jason Bay is going to wish he stayed in Boston.
5. Washington Nationals --
Watch for Stephen Strasburg to hit the majors around the end of May and early June. Then the Nationals might finally have a decent pitcher. Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman will hit. But the team will still stink.

Bay is on the downhill side of his career. JMHO
Won't hit over 20 HR's?
He's hit over 20 HR's every year since 2004, with crappy Pirate teams yet where Bay has had absolutly no protection in the order at all.

There is no indication whatsoever that he is on the downhill?
I've been following him since he was in AAA.
First off he's only played seven seasons, he's in the prime of his career.
Bay has played in virtually every game since 2005.
He's as consistent as they come, his average year is .280-33-107.
Those numbers are as solid as they come, then factor in a very solid .376 OBA and .896 OPS and what you have is one of the premier hitters in the majors.
I've heard the same crap about Bay as I have about Abreu.
"He's a compiler", "He's just a hit a day guy", yadda yadda yadda, these people don't understand how much of a talent he is.

This is what the Mets can expect from Bay this year, the same thing he does every year

.280-30-100

He will start hearing the boos soon at Citifield if he doesn't step it up. Prediction looking good so far..

Yup. He definitely needs to hit in a band box for him to be an effective hitter.

BAY’S SLUMP CONTINUES

Manuel started Angel Pagan in left field to give Jason Bay a breather, with Bay in the midst of a dismal stretch at the plate. He ended up using Bay as a pinch hitter with two outs in the ninth inning, and Bay grounded out to end the game.
Bay’s numbers are ugly across the board. In his first 12 games as a Met, he’s batting .217 with no home runs. He has as many RBI as Alex Cora (2). He has almost twice as many strikeouts (18) as hits (10). You get the idea.

“I’m living what you guys are watching,” Bay said. “It’s one of those things where timing-wise, I’m late on fastballs early. On breaking balls, I’m just kind of in that in-between spot. ... It’s just kind of been like that for the last week or so.”

Manuel said Bay has historically been a streaky hitter and thinks the Mets just need to give him time to work out of it.

Still, this is the worst Bay has been through the first 12 games of any season in his major-league career. His average was lower (.213) through the first 12 games of 2007, but even then he had two homers and six RBI.

Now, he’s struggling with a new team after signing a four-year, $66 million contract in the offseason.

“I’ve gone through these stretches before,” Bay said. “Obviously, at the very beginning of the year, everything gets magnified. A new place, the team has struggled a little bit, it makes it a little bit tougher, but I’m confident with the guy I am. You just have to go out there and keep battling and know that it’s going to turn around.”
