Sports Talk Show Pioneer Bill Gleason Dies

Chicago sports fan have lost a trusted and beloved friend in Bill Gleason, a
newspaper man who became a sports talks show pioneer.
Gleason, a South Side native, wrote a column for the Chicago Sun-Times for much of his 60 years covering sports for the city.
He later became a panelist on a free-wheeling sports talk show that began on radio as "The Sports Writers" and later expanded to the nationally-syndicated "The Sports Writers on TV."
The local Sunday afternoon radio show also included fight promoter Ben Bentley and Tribune sports writer Bill Jaust, the Chicago Tribune reported. It began on radio in 1975, and ran on TV from 1985 to 1997, the Tribune reported.
Bill Gleason was 87 years old. He died Sunday after battling Parkinson's disease.
