I'll break it down for ya.
Offense=nasty
Ingram,Richardson,Julio,Maze,Hanks returning at the skill positions
O-Line returning: LT-Carpenter,LG-B. Jones,C-Vlachos
Departing O-line: RG-Drew Davis (weak link-shouldn't be difficult to replace with our depth),All-American RT-Mike Johnson (big loss-will be the biggest loss on offense-Although we have the depth to replace him; see tyler love or dj fluker-both 5 stars coming out of high school)
Defense
Returning for sure: Marcel Dareus,Nico Johnson,Don'ta Hightower,Mark Barron,Courtney Upshaw,Justing Woodall
Possibly returning: Kareem Jackson
Porbably not retuning: Rolando McClain
Leaving and who will replace: Marquis Johnson will be replaced by Dre Kirkpatrick (#1 HS CB in 2008-is nasty),Terrence Cody will be replaced by Josh Chapman (possible improvement here-I am first to admit that cody was overrated and think chapman will be an upgrade),Cory reamer will be replaced by jerrell harris (stud), erik anders will be replaced by probably ed stinson (wont be much of a drop off if at all),Javier Arenas is completely irreplacable, but think we will find someone to fill his void fairly well.
Here is what I project the lineup to look like Bolded players either started or had significant playing time last year
QB McElroy
RB Mark Ingram
RB Trent Richardson
WR Julio Jones
WR Marquise Maze
TE Chris Smelly/Michael Williams/Chris Underwood/Brian Vogler combo
RT James Carpenter
RG Barret Jones
C William Vlachos
LG David Ross
LT Tyler Love/DJ Fluker
DE Marcel Dareus
DT Josh Chapman
DE Luther Davis or Ed Stinson
Jack Jerrell Harris
Mike Don'ta Hightower-if he fully recovers from ACL surgery(supposedly ahead of schedule)-bolded him because he started most of his freshman year
Sam Nico Johnson
Will Courtney Upshaw
CB Kareem Jackon (if he goes pro probably BJ Scott or an incoming true freshman-will def be the weak spot on D if kareem goes pro)
CB Dre Kirkpatrick
SS Mark Barron
FS Justin Woodall
Final Analysis. No worries on the offensive side of the ball. Defense hinges on whether Kareem goes pro or not. If he does we will have a weakness at one of the CB positions, but if he stays, we will be awesome. That being said, the thing i believe that might keep us from repeating is our schedule. Of the 12 regular season games next year, 6 of those opponents have a bye week before they play bama. Not really fair in my eye, but it is what it is and we still have to buckle the chinstrap and make plays. I firmly believe that Alabama will again be the best team in the country but we will have to see what happens. Hope this sheds light on the situation
