Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith are almost automatic.

Who else will make it from the list?

Rice (of course) and Craig among HOF finalists

Roger Craig, the first 1,000-1,000 player in NFL history, was named among 17 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame today.<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

Rice and Smith are no brainers.

John Randle deserves to be in just not sure if the numbers will fall right.

Officially I am going with Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Tim Brown and John Randle as recent candidates.

From the old-timers I am predicting Dick LeBeau given his excellent (3 Pro Bowls among other honors) career on the field and over 35 years as a sucessful defensive coach and defensive coordinator, now DC with Pittsburgh since 2004, will make it in to make 2010 a 5 member class.

Rice
Smith
Brown
Randle
LeBeau (OldTimers)

Dermonti Dawson as good at his position as anyone on list with exception of rice at WR. Steelers had RBs accumulate great years with dawson making calls. No center EVER has pulled like him and lead blocked to the edge like dawson. Alas, he msot likely will go by the wayside.

Also, Carter better WR than Brown.....not saying both aren't deserving and Brown's punt return skills do not make up gap with Carter.

LeBeau deserving(combo career) but I would consider Coryell ahead of LeBeau if looking at caoching only. Cards' offense in 70s prolificd and imaginative this side of Sid Gillman. Ironically, Coryell remembered more for Chargers offense in late 70s, 80s which was Gillman's AFC team of note in 60s with Hadl, Alworth, Garrison, Frazier, Lincoln and Post to name a few.

For wilheim

I mentioned in a post that the HOF was crap. My bad as I was not specific in my meaning. Today's HOF is more of a club of players on winning teams and to some degree remaining in the game.....goes much deeper but the discussion would be better served over a couple beers and rapid fire oration vs keyboard pounding.

wil: you listed 4 past classes and I believe some of the players were very good but not creme de la creme players. I do not personally reward longevity of very good without 5-6 years of being the best. That eliminates a pro's pro and player I would love to have on my team and that's Art Monk. Many years he was second fiddle on his own team behind Gary Clark and shared spotlight with other receivers. To me, Monk is the gatekeeper and if you not as good as him--no HOF.

Fred Dean and Rger Werhli are not HOFs. With Dean in, the five DLs on this list better get in because they are all moe complete linemen than the one dimensional Dean who most likely does not get in without his SF ring(I abhor the ring component of HOF consideration..to me it's no more than 5%) HOF is an individual accomplishment that can be propelled by the team(s) and their resepctive schemes that the player is allowed to be a part.

This is what makes sports fun is the debate. However, when the parameters of discussion change from original intent, then said discussion has no merit. Same goes true for HOF...when the standards are comprimised to let some feel good borderline players in the value of the Hall is diminished. My lousy .02
